It make me sick how everything is subject to tax in this country. I think you either tax transactions (via VAT) or you tax income (via PAYE & NI) NOT BOTH. Considering how much they take from us it's interesting how much services in the public sector are being cut to the bone. Makes you wonder where the money is really going..? Actually, no it doesn't. We already know.

Again, see my comment above, in both cases, you're being charged tax on the transaction. Sure, it's a bit crappy, but that's just the way it is. :(

I think moggsie meant first we're charged taxed on our income, that we also use to pay the tax for the item+shipping.
That's what i think about at least.
Perhaps there is some way to get back some tax at the end of the year but i don't know.

The problem is that we're not rich enough to be able evade taxes. The rich people seem to have found a way so that they have to pay as little taxes as possible.

Strictly speaking, they're avoiding tax, not evading it. The difference is that one of those is legal (tax avoidance) whereas the other is illegal (tax evasion).

Putting your money into a Cash ISA savings account is a form of 'tax avoidance', a perfectly legal way of getting tax-free income on savings. Lying on a customs declaration to avoid paying import duty is 'tax evasion' and you can be prosecuted for it.

I'd say the difference is pretty fine in some cases.

I daresay you might be right.

Well a while back i found this out the hard way, I try to keep my orders within the Borders of the European union.
If i cannot i am willing to let my package make a detour through Poland Where the border security is less tight and let a friend repackage the items before sending it to me.

Is that fraud?

Not really in my opinion, it is up to the Polish authorities to enforce Customs laws.

It's not your fault they are less tight but certainly an advantage!

I think only once UK customs missed a package of mine, I think they employ hawks.
