Not true. Loads of surveys show that the core demographic for gaming is our age group as the average age of the gamer keeps shifting along with us as we get older. 10 years ago it was 20-30 year olds, and now it is 30-40 year olds.
I'm talking about more serious gaming on PC, PS3 and 360. Younger people do have as high a demographic is specific games like BF3, GTA and Saints Row, but for much younger generations 8+ they are not playing the more adult titles we used to play, like Elite, but instead silly childrens games aimed at their age group. And most teens prefer to play mobile games or a handful of 360 titles.
It is the 25+ age group with the highest disposable incomes that are the target market for the console makers, and in turn the game developers.
