This is an odd one.

My setup is an A1200 with 1260 and 32MB ram, 2GB CF partitioned into 25mb for Sys31, 175 for Sys39, 1GB for stuff and 1GB for work.

I have OS3.9 on CD which I am trying to install... Having no CD drive, I've imaged it up to an ISO, and put the ISO on a fat CF card, which I mount using filedisk.device after mounting the CF device. Clear? :D

I've created a boot disk with everything needed on it: apollo libs, setpatch, cf and filedisk drivers, cdfilesys, etc... I assign env: to ram:env manually, and copy libs from the emergency-boot libs directory on the CD to RAM:libs, then assign libs: ram:libs add

So installer runs. I select to do an install on an empty hard disk...

...and end up with no bootable OS.

From looking at the script, it *should* install the contents of Workbench3.5 before installing 3.9. It never seems to install Workbench3.5 files, leaving me with half an installation :(.

The script seems right... The copyfiles for 3.9 works, but the copyfiles for 3.5 simply doesn't.

Anyone got any clues as to why, because I'm stumped!

Code:
      ; now copy the Workbench3.5 and 3.9

      (copyfiles (source oldworkbenchPath) ; OS3.5
                 (dest target)
                 (all)
                 (optional "nofail" "force" "askuser")
      )

      (complete 45)

; hier kˆnnte noch ein neues Bild hin.

      (copyfiles (source workbenchPath) ; OS3.9
                 (dest target)
                 (all)
                 (optional "nofail" "force" "askuser")
      )

Truly odd.

did you set up the card under winuae?

windows messes up the file names you see, so format cf under winuae not FAT and install the 3.9 files within UAE and name the cf card the same as the original os3.9 disc. don't forget the assign "Assign [name of cd] [path]"

if you've already done all this, sorry i can't help

no, I'm gritting my teeth and installing it on the Amiga.

It's loading the CD image from an ISO (so I'm using the Amiga to interpret what's in there) and the filenames seem to work on that.

Aha, I've manually copied those files and it seems that there's a problem with copying one of the files in the FONTS directory (input file not found?!)...

think JuvUK is thinking you might have naffed the protection bits when you created ISO, main problem I get with protection bits is the H - hidden one been set

I have installed 3.9 from a virtual CD so I know its posable

one question though will your HD boot to the cli prompt ??

OK, here's what I'm doing.

I have an image of my OS3.9 CD, made by me, using my mac. It's a full image of the CD as an ISO, with no messing done to it.

I have copied this to a CF card. The image, that is, not the individual files!

I mount that image using DiskImage.device as ID0 with CDFileSystem as the filesystem.

Everything works as it should on the Amiga; I can see files, etc. It's as if the CD is in the ID0 drive ;)

I have manually copied WOrkbench3.5 (copy clone all) to the target drive, ignoring the 2 errors in the fonts directory, and....

It works!

That's one of your wilder outbursts, my amphibian friend!

And now it hasn't installed glowicons.

I think this CD image is rather odd, so time to try to make another one...

comsmicfrog is quite correct. You can pretty much make anything work on an Amiga, which was the fun part of computing with Amiga's. Unless you Master the OS3.9 CDROM exactly as it is, you will probably have problems installing the OS.

Looking at it from a different perspective, why not try formatting the CF card, just copy the files across to it from the OS3.9CD under WinUAE. Then rename the CF Volume to that of your OS3.9CD & bung it on your Amiga, making sure the HD has a higher Boot priority. Once at the desktop with the CF-OS3.9 Volume mounted, run the installation script & see what happens.
If that still doesn't work, try assigning CD0: to your CF device name.

Best of luck.

But it's a complete copy of the CD, as an ISO, which is mounted correctly on the Amiga. Goodness only knows what it's complaining about :)

As for glowicons not installing: same thing happened on my 3000. I can't see anything that determines the color depth before installing...

I'll have a look to see if I can find OS3.9SE, as that has a few bugs in the installer script sorted, apparently.

Latest version of Installer for OS3.1?

Version 43.3 here: http://os.amigaworld.de/index.php?lang=en&page=37

The Installer on the OS3.9 CD I have here is 44.1. I wonder if you might get a different experience for creating a Bootable OS3.9 floppy (Emergency Disk) then boot from it with the CF OS3.9 mounted & try again.

It uses the installer off the CD as the tool path is relative, so it's definitely using the right version of installer. BTDTGTTS ;)

Ya know, it's times like this I really hate not being a "Regular Forum User" & maybe I can use the excuse; - "It's meh age"....

....But I had to Google BTDTGTTS & then LOL'd knowing my frickin' wardrobe is full of em!
