kronuz, I've got two CGFX cds, I'll let you borrow one, just to verify. Also, the mui bug shouldn't be an issue. But just to be sure, is MUI installed?

Also, what kind of CPU are you using, and do you have propper CPU version of relevant libraries? (040 stuff typically vs 060)

Sorry for dropping off the face of the earth for a while.
I have had cars to repair, band practice, family staying over and so on blablabla.

Anyhow...regarding the Buster:

I read somewhere, sometime " upgrade to Buster 11 in order to use Z3 cards with your A4000"...so...I ordered a B11 just now :)

Buster 11 is to make Z3 fast transfer modes work better, not from "not at all" to "a-okay".

Googling Cybervision64 buster9 gives:

#1
I bought a Cybervision 64 2meg board for my A4000/25 so that I could
cruise the net faster. Problem is, the computer keeps crashing randomly
with an 8000 0004 guru almost every time. I sent my board back to
Softwood here in the States and they sent me another one and it's
doing the same thing.
The tech guy at Softwood said my board was working fine in his system
and said that HE ALSO had a Buster 9 in his Amiga.

The Buster chip in my computer is soldered DIRECTLY to the motherboard
and has a small wire jumper on pin 2 to pin 11 I think.

Someone mentioned here that some of the older Amigas had timing problems
with the buss and that it wouldn't make any difference to change to a
Buster 11. Changing a surface mounted IC is something I don't wish to
have to try myself and the cheapest I can have it done for is $200.

Would this be worth it or would I be wasting my money for nothing?
Is there someone who can fix the timing problems as well?

I really like the way the board performs before it crashes and I hate
to think I would have to get a new motherboard for big bucks to fix it.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks,
MDEVOE

Hot #2
I found the solution at last

Very simple and I'm a donkey

I downloaded the user manual and seen that there's a jumper for the buster version. My amiga mounts the rev.9 , the cybervision was configured for buster 11.

I added a jumper and ... voila' ... my amiga is 1024x768 in true colors!!!

And more on the same #3
There's a jumper on the CV64 board, it should be open with rev. 11 Buster and closed with rev. 7 or 9 Buster. According to the manual it's only usefull with CV64 boards with seriealnumber 81xxx

And our own AndyLandy on the matter of Buster 9 vs Buster 11:
There's a lot of mixed advice on Buster revisions. Most A3000s shipped with a rev -05, -06 or -07 (Known as Fat Buster), this is a Zorro III Buster chip, but doesn't support Direct Memory Access (DMA) to the Zorro cards. A4000s shipped with rev -09 or -11 (Known as Super Buster) (Some very early A4000s might have had -07)

You need a -09 or a -11 to run Zorro DMA master cards. Most notably, the A4091, DENEB and Z3 Fastlane can take advantage of DMA.

-11 Super Buster fixes some bugs over the -09 version and is required to make an A4091 work. As I understand it, the A4091 is the only card that requires a -11. There are rumours that other cards do, but also claims that they work without. I'm told the Z3 Fastlane should work fine with -09 and I've seen claims that ZorRAM works even with -07

As I understand it, neither -09 or -11 handles multiple bus master cards at the same time, so you'll have difficulty either way if you try running a Fastlane and a DENEB in the same machine, at least one will need the DMA disabled. I think -11 handles things more gracefully than -09, but neither will actually give you maximum performance out of both cards at the same time.

More of the same:
Buster 11 is required for ZORRO III cards to manipulate Multiple DMA Channels correctly. No way will an A4091 or Z3 Fastlane SCSI card work in a ZORRO III miggy with Buster 9. It will fall over & lock up on the SCSI Bus when another DMA channel is called. I lived this one & had my very first A4KD upgraded by WANG. They were responsible for C= Home Warranties in 1992 until their demise in April '94.

When the service guy came to replace Buster 9 with an 11, I got a complete Mobo swap out as mine was surface mounted Rev 9.

Not O.T. but, ....heh, ....through the WANG Engineer, I also scored a very cheap A3640 which Over-Clocked to 33Mhz. :)

There were some issues with C= upgrading Buster09 to 11 & the A3640 processor cards going from Rev 3.0 to 3.1 & finally Rev 3.2. This all happened at the same time. With GAL Chip U209 showing a -03 for Rev 3.2, -02 for a Rev 3.1 & -01 for a Rev 3.0. This DMA cock-up did not go down well with Old Skool Amiga fans from the A3000 days, along with the fact you had to have an A4KT to get on-board SCSI. :|

I'm digressing, but it's all part & parcel of the whole she-bang. Buster always was a pain in the ass of all the Amiga Custom Chips. Anyway, slap a Rev 11 Buster in your A4KD & you have multiple ZORRO III DMA channels waiting to be used.

My i7 4.2Ghz X58 monster has one DMA channel. :|

Kin

And
Buster 11 only support one busmaster-card. So using a A4091/Fastlane and Deneb Z3 DMA wouldn't work?
PIO with Deneb will of course always work.

With Buster 9 it's possible to use Fastlane and Deneb DMA as both cards have a workaround.

Some useful information is available at E3B's homepage... http://www.e3b.de/usb/main_faq_e.html

Which of the Buster revisions that's best seems to depend on what cards you want to run in your system.

Phonepak

Phonepak

GVP's Phonepak requires a Buster 11 to work also. (Technically you could add slow 16 bit memory on a card to make it work also.)

Thanks for the info

As I suspected: It works perfectly with the 030 installed :picard

....to be continued!

To be clear, the card works with 030 installed but not with 040 installed?

I smell library issues... ;)

Hi and thanks for all the replies guys.

Looks like I forgot to respond Ar9's last post.

Yes, I swapped back to the 030 and achieved 64k colors in 1024x768 straight away. I want to get truecolor

Regarding the a3640: I have to re-jumper the J100 on the a4k mobo in order to make it boot with the a3640. Is this normal?

Regarding libs: I came across HSMathLibs...anyone with exp. on those? wondering if are they supposed to be mixed with other lib kits for the 040 ?

HSMathLibs are a brilliant piece of software and miles faster than the originals. Worth every penny you throw at it.

Hi guys.

Wow, time flies!

I have been so lucky to obtain the holy grale: Arnljot's broken CSPPC.
Stachu100 got it working, and I have barely started to harness the incredible powers of this beast.

I gave up on the 040 and cv64 when I felt that the CSPPC might have a chance of glory, once again.

So...I can't boot from the 3.9 EM-floppy, but OS4.0 works great, except I cant do much with the screen modes and the hereticII install fails when I'm about to get the serial prompt....well, this is all for another thread or two.

Just lettin yall know how this turned out. I know there is anothe guy on here with similar problems. I'll sell my A3640 I guess...

Heretic II doesn't work with os4 only OS3.9...

Glad to hear the you're having more success and congrats on the CSPPC :-)

Did he say what needed to be done? What I'd done to kill it? Important learning experience for me to take away from this.

Either way, I'm really happy for you  It's a kick ass beast of a PPC card :)

Well THERE'S my problem then. Thanks Steve :picard

I reinstalled OS4.0 after just deleting all files on DH0 and I deselected the 31Khz patch...now I'm browzin the Interwebz in 1024*768 :)
Already I feel the CV64 is a bit sluggish, so for os4.1 I think i might have to go BPPC with mediator, but that's another adventure...

As far as I know, it's all woodoo...but he did mention resoldering the 060 and various "other joints".
So I'm not sure, but I know his work is far beyond my skills and patience.

Thank you so much Arnljot for letting me have a chance to experience this incredible piece of soulful hardware. She will forever be treasured:jester:

I'm putting her coma down to old age then  Not taking it on me :-P
