Should I be worried? What are possible outcomes of this. Does anyone have any experience?

The payment is for my Grex kit, bought by rainbowat

Sometimes they randomly do this it happens all the time. You are not being singled out it is completely random I think, it has happened to me years ago and after a few days they concluded the review and released the funds back to my account.

Had this done to me when I cancelled a payment recently. They hold on to the funds for up to 10 days randomly when the amount is reasonably large. Something to do with security checks and account transfer times and things. Nothing to worry about unless you need the funds urgently.

I hope they sort this before the weekend, so I can send the equipment to Rainbowat

I only need it in order to send Rainbowat his Grex. He's the victim here, not me.

I've got my Grex still at least. :(:(

Yep as been said it's totally random and you have to wait for it to clear before sending the item.

I've had it happen a couple of times, it really frustrates the buyer but there's nothing you can do but wait :coffee:

I don't think it's random. If, say, you receive multiple 300 euros for instance (for various goods), within a week, they will do the same thing I pressume. Once they asked me to photocopy and send them my ID card in order to continue.

Since its only 'pending' and is not being 'held' I doubt it will take more than a day or so. If it changes to 'held' or on 'temporary hold' it may take a while longer.

My account has been verified status for years.

Thing is, I've rarely received money with it. Mostly paid stuff, expensive stuff too (ebay auctions paying for some of the stuff going out now).

Yes, I think that their concern is not how many you spend around, but how many and in what frequency you receive the money.

It's not "random" in the sense that they pick random users, it's the amount that's "random", they don't inspect every transaction but there are patterns logic here.

PayPal can do whatever they like, I had a game hosting business before and lost a lot of money as clients asked for refunds for no reason what so ever and PayPal where happy to do so. I prefer to not use PayPal for most transactions as they ***

it happened to me last sunday. I made a payment and paypal sent me a similar mail. Finally paypal made the payment on Monday.
I think that in my case was because I put "payment for prometheus" in the tittle :picard.

I woke up this morning to an email from PayPal that all was a-okay.

It's the first time it's happened to me, and when things like this happens - it detracts from the trust one has in PayPal as a dependable service.

I have been lead to believe (although could be wrong, of course) that this procedure is a necessary 'random' check that is put in place due to the financial authorities requesting proof of anti-money laundering practices put in place by Paypal. :shhh:

i'm betting paypal randomly holds on to money simply because they don't ever have enough cash holdings to cover the balances of thier users at one time and has become a giant ponzi....

As RichyV says I'm pretty sure it's any money laundering measures.
