Hi all, i picked up my first ever PC Engine this week since i've wanted to try one for a while.

Well i ended up grabbing the Core Grafx system with everdrive from Ebay.

It came with a 3rd party PSU, AV cable, controller & Everdrive.

I've played with it for a little while but found the Composite video to be poor quality on my TV (lines & jailbars through the image) so thought i'd look into an RGB mod.

Turns out its pretty simple on this model.

The Core Grafx has a 5 pin AV socket on the side, this can be removed and replaced with an 8 pin socket. I recycled my 8 pin socket from a dead Mega Drive model 1.

So old one removed and new socket installed. The motherboard only has space for the 5 pins so the extra 3 were cut short at the back of the socket and wires soldered directly to them. The Red/Green/Blue signals were pulled directly from the video chip.

Image is really sharp now

And all back together and looks like it was factory installed.

nice job on the socket but you need an RGB amp in your setup, the colors are very dark , the Bomberman background should be a light blue not this dark tone of it
there is a sale here for amps, just take one and install it between the IC and socket :)

Very nice indeed. Always wanted one of these too. I still need to look at getting my PCEngine GT handheld fixed up.

Received my RGB amp from Todd today. Installed fine but my Samsung LCD didn't want to sync so I cut off the composite signal and wired it to sync instead. All working fine now

That looks great! I modded mine a few years ago and recently added a better amp too. That one you have looks really nice! (I made mine from scratch and looks a bit messy with wires etc). Reminds me I need to update my mod thread on here with the newer photos.

Edit

Looks like I did add my new photos this March, I just forgot! My PC Engine mods are in my sig below :)

Thanks bud but I think I'm gonna let the machine go. I've had it a couple weeks and it's seen little use. Couple that with the fact that I've just bought a Neo Geo AES and the price of Neo stuff is very expensive I could do with recouping some of the cash
