I bought year or two ago CDi 450. It has empty battery. It has also difficulties to read CD:s.
Battery problem causes that machine did not boot properly. I had to keep it on several minutes before it booted to any game. Battery keeps nvram (saves and settings) on going and on the same chip has RTC. Just in case at the same time I replaced the laser-unit with VAM1202 laser unit. You can find still new VAM1202s from eBay and RTC/battery replacement chips are also common. My CDi450 is currently working great.
So the problem might be with power, but battery should be replaced anyway at near future and why not change laser-unit also.
