Just received a new mouse and keyboard for my main PC in the post within the last hour. My old faithful Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer v3.0A was finally wearing out (left mouse button was registering double clicks on a single click a lot) so it was time for a replacement.
After much searching and review reading I finally drew up a short list and went hunting for prices. I've ended up buying a
Logitech G500 gaming mouse, and they also had the
Logitech G15 gaming keyboard at a good price, and I've been meaning to upgrade my keyboard for a long time also, so took the opportunity. Found them both on overclockers for a great price. The mouse of half the price of anywhere else!
Just unpacked them, and connected them up and typing on the keyboard as I type. So far they both seem great and match the many reviews.
I was a little unsure about the keyboard as I like blue LEDs, and this newer version of the G15 has red/orange back-light keys, but now I've got it up and running I actually think it is better, as they are not as eye piercing as blue light, and create a softer glow, whilst allowing easy reading of all the keys. The keys also have a slight non-slip rubberised feel to them which is very nice. Plus they are quieter, less clattery, and a bit softer to type on then the Microsoft keyboard I was using before. They still have a good travel and feedback though which is important for typing.
For anyone who doesn't know this keyboard, it is an LED backlit gaming keyboard, with a programmable LCD display at the top, with lots of applets available for in game info, or for other more general info such as system temps, email alerts etc... to be displayed on it. It also has a set of customisable macro G keys to the left of the keyboard that you can program to do whatever you like. And some other features such as disabling the Windows key in games.
The G500 mouse is a gaming spec mouse. It has a special weight system, allowing you to load little weights into a tray under the mouse to change the weight and feel of the mouse to suit the user. Great feature. It also has a DPI feature allowing you to increase or decrease the sensitivity of the mouse on the fly. Other features include a special metal fly wheel style mouse wheel. This has a button behind it that can release or restrict it. In free mode you can spin it quickly for fast scrolling, and in restricted mode it clicks round for accurate scrolling. It also has side scrolling. Other than that it also has 3 programmable buttons for thumb control and built in memory to save profiles for games and other mouse settings, so you can take the mouse to other computers and it still remembers the setup.
So far I'm really happy with these and will post a couple of pictures later.
