Steve my friend, that's p0rn, that's p0rn right there chap! This is the sort of stuff that the newspapers where on about. Keep posting these and keep it hush, every man (or maybe girl!) needs to do it sometime. :ninja:

Jut for the fun of it I tried and won on evilBay this low tech baby for some nostalgic reason:

Links to non-BIN are not allowed. I'll add the picture of the item in a sec. Dave G

I'll make good use of it with my 8bit system :p

The auction was finished so I tought it would be OK to link to it.

Now armed with my mighty floppy punch I'm ready to take on 2011! :p

On equipment from the 1980s :shhh:

It's years since I had anything to do with 5.25" floppies.

Well, I have 4 8bit system in my collection and I prefer to use real floppy when I use them instead of hooking them up to my PC. I have all the necessary hardware to interface them with my pc and load the games and apps from there but it isn't the same. I love the sound of the 1541 banging its head or the audio beeping sound of the Atari when it access its drive.

I miss the old days when we were playing loading again... :p

And the good old cassette days - I wrote one game that once the computer was set off loading I would go and eat my tea and it would still be loading when I got back to it

Now that I don't miss :)

Look what Santa brought me :-)

IMG_0640.jpg

The swedish santa apparently thought I had been nice throughout the year and brought me this baby:

Also got (the?) two volumes of Retro Gamer's Hardware Handbook, a video game shirt (my own design! :D), an orgasmatron (love that name!), some stuff for the new house (snow shovel, sweeper and fundings for an electrical lawnmower.)
Oh, and I ordered myself an ACA1230! I'm still waiting for payment for some of my stuff I've got on sale here, but I thought the sooner I placed my order the better. :)
Merry xmas, everbody!

That's a real nice one.

Here's what my brother got me:

Yeay! It works too.. needs some TLC, but YEAY!!!

My "big"gift from the wife didn't make it in time for Christmas, so I'm thinking there might still be an ACA1230 on it's way maybe...

So I can play Coleco Pac-Man while I wait.. ;-)

@Desiv

I'm so jealous! I've wanted one of those since I was in elementary school! :) I hope you have many hours of fun with it!

For me, I recently picked up an Aoyue 474A+ Desoldering Station. It's a fairly inexpensive de-soldering station and it works quite well. The directions that come with it are horrid so I didn't have the best results with my first use, but I am now armed with more knowledge and am ready to use it again. This little device is going to make repairs so much easier!

Awesome Stuff SdG

I have one of those desolder stations and I have a few techniques that I am more than happy to share.

Important one
1. when turning the unit off

Hold the gun so that the nozzle is in directly up in the air - then turn the unit off, hold this position for about 30 seconds.

This is so that the solder doesn't solidify in the nozzle.

2. Thermal resist cloth

You can get this for next to nothing - I use this to clean the capture device WHILE the unit is on, you need to be VERY careful when doing this.

I do this because the the heavy gauge solder (in old components / power supplies) bonds to the spring coil of the gun - once this happens there's no more sucking, In fact, you need a chisel to get this stuff out.

3. Use in combination with Hot Air

On a lot of heavy through hole components with large ground planes this units maximum wattage is exceeded. so I combine this with no-clean-flux, a vice and hot-air of about 360c - this works wonders and really can get at those stubborn to remove stai... err solder welds. =D

Wow! Thanks for all the tips, Keith. :) I found out the hard way about the solder solidifying in the tube. :( I managed to get it cleaned out but it was not fun.

With the Thermal Resist Cloth, how do you use that while the unit is turned on? Unfortunately, I did not get a hot air rework station when I purchased my last soldering station. If I had know better at the time, I would definitely have spent the extra money on it.

@Thanius

Nice soldering station! You'll have to let us know how it works out for you.

Again, thanks!

Oh! I also just went out at lunch to get my new company provided smart phone. :D

The Motorola Droid X

We traditionally use BlackBerry devices at our company but RIM is so far behind that we decided to test out some Android phones. :)

Amiga 500Plus, however i am not sure if the keyboard is from this model, possibly from an earlier version of Amiga 500.

Your keyboard is very very rare. It was supplied ONLY with rev 5 models (Fruhe Version) in Germany and those cases had the

Commodore logo engraved in the chassis and they all made in West Germany. All later A500's (rev6a + rev8a1 <-- the bad hybrid

ones) had green power led and orange floppy led. Very early (rev5 and later rev6a) models had red power led and green led for

floppy. A500+ never released with red-green led keyboard. If you open your Amiga you will see that the controller of the keyboard

says "MOS" and not Commodore like the others. These early keyboards DO NOT USE membrane. When you press the key two small

metals are kissing each other thus the machine receives command. This makes this keyboard cleaning proceedure very hard if you

want to remove the keys and clean it up. Later keyboard revisions have membranes. If you notice this keyboard you will see that

lacks the two A's buttons. Instead has a Commodore logo button (left) and a A button on the right. Rare keyboard. Do not sell it.

Yes, Seaside is right, but that keyboard was never used in A500 plus (they use mitsumi keyboards). In early days, C= used other manufacturers for keyboards - later all were made by mitsumi but there are also different ones. Some have a real PDV, others have a contact foil. Most have red-green leds but as somebody found out that there shouldn't be red LEDs (for ergonomic reasons), they changed it to green-orange on later models.

Nope, this keyboard is from a Rev 3, not a revision 5. Revision 5's are pretty common, some do still have a red power led, but lack the C= key.

This keyboard is indeed rare-ish, I have a rev 3 machine with a low serial number (12480) which has this keyboard. More info on it here: http://www.amiga4ever.nl/systems.php?id=29
