oh, yeah...had to go waaay down south Calgary yesterday to see the arthritis specialist...so it was also a thrift shop day..nothing too exciting...but a few of the things i like to look for...

Raceway 57 board game (a bit like a few others i have seen, Formula-1 is fairly similar, tho has a longer track)
Essential Fantastic Four #1 (reprint of FF issues 1-20 + annual #1)
Choose Your Own Adventure - Super Adventure #1 - Journey to the Year 3000
Zork Quest #3 - The Cavern of Doom

also...it might seem like such a small/stupid thing..but one of our local ($2)Dollar Store chains finally got in small plastic boxes (8 sections) (in packs of 4) that are absolutely perfect (and cheap price-wise) for my 'war' games that all come with those cardboard counters, as well as other boardgames with small pieces, i have been looking for some of these for a while now....

Oh that reminds me, went to a car boot sale recently and scored an old analogue LCD tv cheap that supports 15khz RGB via the VGA port (very rare in Aus). Every mode I've tried works and quite well too.

It also has svideo which works well for my C64.

I seriously hit the jackpot on this one, normally i get home find i have another useless LCD.

This has been a pretty awesome week for my recently rekindled interest in all things Amiga!

First, I won an A2000 in a local Facebook auction group that specializes in things people put out on the side of the road for collection by the council:

("That's your birthday present, you realise?" said my lovely wife after the quite fierce bidding ended)

This one was left on the verge, neatly packaged with a note on it saying it still worked, so be nice! It's got 2.04 roms and comes with lots of documentation and the original 2.0 disks. Inside are a 2 meg ram expansion, a GVP SCSI card and an A2320 scan doubler.

The SCSI card looks like it has some corrosion on the PCB. It shows up in the list of cards and the disk spins up but if I try to boot from it the machine just shows a grey screen and might eventually prompt for a floppy after a minute or two. Also, I don't have a driver disk for it so it's a little hard to diagnose the problem when booting from floppy. Gotta get my A1200 back online so I can get an image!

The motherboard looks good. The original battery was still in there and was starting to leak a little so I removed it quick.

In all that excitement I'd almost forgotten about something else I'd bought online that arrived the very next day:

I usually go around on local flea markets on weekends, but I seldom find anything interesting. It's the boring odd and beaten up PS1 or Wii setup with a few games and that's it. I have a theory that in Denmark the living standard is so high that people can't be bothered to sell used electronics (unless it's something newer) they just chuck them out.

But today my luck has turned finally:

It's a Sony WM-D6C in excellent condition and works flawlessly. I wanted one of these for ages but not for an ebay price. The seller was asking very little ('hm.., that old tape player?') and I bargained it down to next to nothing. So happy.

I think I should stop doing the hunt while I'm ahead..

And the landfills, are they well guarded or would they notice me turning up with a shovel and transit van? :D

Very cool bit of kit! It does look brand new.

Well there are no landfills that I know of. And taking anything from a recycling center is illegal. In fact there were some cases of break-ins to recycling dumps and they watch out a lot these days I think. In any case they are well guarded areas and they're watched over.

There was a recycling place next to my previous job where I drove by every day seeing a huge crane claw loading and piling small mountains of PCs, and crushing them in the process. And I always wondered how many A4000's and A4000T's are in those piles, getting crushed every year..

Picked this up this evening, as a second copy as I already have it. No manual but it was cheap. But looking at it, I think I know why there's no manual. The spine artwork and rear artwork are different to my genuine version, and the CD has different artwork, with "Region Free" on it, and it's a blue DVD as well. Anyone think it's a regional variation or a burnt/printed copy? Mmm, just found the CD artwork on console-covers.com.. spose that answers that :(

I've had a bunch of breadbox C64's for ages, years and years but not one single one of them worked. I had tried and tried to fix them myself. Swapping out chips from one to the other etc... but no luck.

I gave them all to a friend of mine who is fixing what he can in his spare time. Very nice of him :)

Anyway, on Friday he gave me my first one back and repaired :D

I used to have one when I was a kid and for the price i couldn't leave it.
so far I've installed an audio input for loading wav's so I could test the machine (I have no tapes).
Need to find a replacement tape counter too, the original is stuck and the reset button is snapped.

We should all start a club! Welcome to the fold Mike!

There's already a club, it's called the CPCWiki Forum :)

@Scrappysphinx : I think I still have replacement tape counters. They are not original parts, but close enough that they work fine. Send me a PM if you want one (Maybe I can throw in a CPC Tape too if you want to test the tapedeck).

Bryce.

Edit: Just checked. I have one last counter. This is what it looks like:
