Hi all, as some of you may have seen in the "post here when you get something new thread" i recently picked up a Playstation 2 Shop Display Cabinet.

I posted a really poor photo at the time but now i have it in my posession i have taken a few more photos.

The story behind the cab is that the guy runs a hotel and this was being skipped by a local game store. He asked if he could have it for his hotel and they said yes. It was missing the PS2 and controllers so he bought a brand new system and controllers and fitted them. The lights were also not working so he replaced them. After a while in the hotel with little use he took it home but his children had grown up so it sat unused. Thats when he put it on Gumtree and i went and purchased it.

Everything is in immaculate condition (a few small scratches on the front panel) and it looks fantastic however it is very big

Its about 6ft tall and the base plate is about 2ft x 2ft.

As can be seen in the photos, its a hollow cabinet with an 8 way 2 pin Euro Extension socket inside (apparently was assembled in France). Plugged into this are a 21" Sony CRT TV, the PS2 and the two strip lights. I thought about removing the CRT and putting an LCD in its place but then the light gun that came with it wouldn't work. The TV's brightness settings are screwed up (way too bright) and there is no way to access the menu without the remote (ordered a replacement from ebay) but is useable.

I have taken the PS2 out and installed a network adapter with 80gb HDD and installed some games. I am hoping to locate a modchip for the system soon so i can also play some PS1 games.

oh wow that is very nice.

How did you transport it? Back of a Van or did you manage to fit it in a car.

Looks great :)

I can just picture scrappy walking down the street with it stuffed in a shopping trolley

Excellent, I'll remember that as I have a 2006 Focus Estate - in case I find any PS2 demo units on sale! :p

I'm sure you know already, those shop stands for any console are very desirable. If you keep that for years to come, it will only get more rare and collectible. And its in great condition.

Gosh, you with this .. Steve with his Tabletop arcade ... argghhhh :D

You guys should be forbidden from posting this cool stuff .. silly people like me are like "oh man, I wanna have me one of those !!" .. :picard

Awesome stuff

This is a nice item to have. I acutally love the blue display. nothing wrong with the PS2. :)

Would love to have one of these, but they're rather hard to come by - either console, so very jealous :D

I actually have one of these. Could you show how the lights are hooked up as mine has a skart plug but nothing to hook it into. Thanks

Hi there, not sure if these will help but here you go.

Basically there are two strip lights, one behind the Playstation 2 logo at the top and one above the internal compartment where the PS2 sits. They are both wired directly to plugs and then plugged into the 2 pin (Euro) extension bar in the back of the unit. The extension bar is then wired to a 3 pin plug (UK standard) and plugged into the wall.

The top light, as you can see is wired with Live, Neutral & Earth and then the cable runs along the side of the unit down into the back.

The smaller light which sits at above and inside the small internal space again is wired with Live, Neutral & Earth and then the cable runs down into the back of the unit.

Both cables then terminate in 2 pin Euro plugs.

Both plugs then plug into the 6 socket Euro extension along with the TV & PS2

I hope they help :)

I could imagine my wife going ballistic if I ever acquired anything like that! How do you get away with it?

Looking at the side profile I would definitely replace the CRT with a flatscreen... you could then reduce the overall depth of the unit by 2/3 at least.

Would be great to bring this to future retro events.

You could also then install a separate nice sounding sound setup and even convert the unit to support multiple systems with a selector on the front. Imagine also upgrading the strip lighting to those mood lighting setups where you can switch between colours.

Weren't there also similar cabinets for Dreamcast, Gamecube, N64, Xbox, PSOne.. etc?

I didn't actually give her much choice. I saw it advertised, emailed the guy, fetched it and then said this is what i bought

There are other stands yes, i'd love to get a Sega one (not fussed on machine, just a Sega one).

I am contemplating replacing the CRT with a modern flatscreen, i just need to find a 21" 4:3 that fits properly and looks good.
