PS2 Shop Display Cabinet

I just wanted to say thanks for your help. mines working now but mine seems to be slightly different. The stangest bit is that my buttons are solid plastic not rubber

I like it. It's like a PS2 arcade cabinet but with a bit of a kiosk look. Fondly remember seeing those in shops and being amazed by the PS2 graphics.

You have to be pretty lucky to get your hands on one just like that. Keep checking local adds and ebay - be patient and persistent. It's not something you just acquire overnight.

The problem with things like this is that shops aren't allowed to give them away, they actually have to destroy them (Thanks health and safety)

I've worked in shops when I was younger and we had to actually destroy stuff that wasn't sold or no longer needed. It's very sad

I went into a couple of local game shops in town recently, I generally buy online so its rare i do go into town and asked a few members of staff about their kiosks.

Apparently shops don't actually own them, most of them are loaned to the shop and usually have to be returned for replacement when a new model/machine comes out or they can be charged for them.

However the manager of my local Game store told me that when they relocated from the large two story building to the store they have now (when they were in financial difficulty) they left their PS3/Xbox360/Wii & DS kiosks there as they couldn't get the manufacturers to collect them and they weren't allowed to relocate them. I don't know how true it is but it made me sad

They were disposed by the builders.

hey I'd like to chip in with some crazy idea.

Those cabinets are made to be as cheap and as much modular as possible, so why not reverse engineer one and make a DIY project to build one to match the original as close as possible?

I mean, hey, there's not rocket science in there. AFAICS there's some wood (for the TV), a metal cage (any "blacksmith" can do) and the blue panel can be custom made by any printing shop worth its salt (in my previous job we bought those panels for exhibitions). A neon light on top.

I would only wonder about the "arms" that keep the pads. I can't see how they're made.

The bill of materials can't be that bad. Measurements are important. Those can be made by some volunteer willing to take a lot of photos ;-)

I just got one this evening (Picture below) locally. The guy even delivered it to my house

Its missing the PS2 and TV but otherwise complete including both keys, controllers and all the lights are working. I need to fix the top "Playstation 2" backlight unit as the clips are damaged but that is a simple fix.

So, what I need: A TV and a PS2 stand. What TV would fit ? 21" CRT ? 4:3 or 16:19 ?
