Hi all,

I am in the process of putting my amiga 1200 back together in a new case following a recap.

I will not be putting the top rf shield back on but I will be putting the original floppy drive back.

I noticed on the rf shield the factory put two pieces of electrical tape at two edges on the shield where the floppy sits, presumably to stop anything shorting.

Presume i dont need to worry about any metal contacting metal now the shield is gone? The floppy does sit over the top metal ridge of the lower rf shield where the motherboard is attached to, but as far as i can tell it doesnt make contact…

Just wondered what others have done who have kept their original floppy drives..

Thanks in advance or any advice

Tim

What top RF shields, :ROFLMAO:, I took mine off sometime in the 90's and have no idea where it is now

None of my A1200's have RF shields either. That was always the first thing to go in the trash bin.

The RF shields were put on by Commodore to comply with country law as on Stray Radio Frequency interference. Now a days it’s near impossible to have the top RF cover on due to the amount of aftermarket parts such as the Indivision, FastATA, Bvision graphics card etc….
The original floppy drive will fit in regardless. Even the Gotek drives with the drive adapters are fine.

Thanks :) I have it fitted in and powered it up for the first time for a test . There was a nervous wait as the grey screen seem to take a while , but then the glorious kickstart screen.. i updated the roms to 3.1 and had my fingers crossed I replaced them correctly and with all the pins intact..

3.1 ROMs are well known for taking time. This is due to it scanning for hard drives on the IDE connector. It normally can take 20 - 30 seconds until time out. You can buy IDE terminators for the IDE connector if you are not planning on using the IDE. Or if you upgrade to 3.2 ROMs this doesn’t become an issue anymore.
