I posted a rant about the extreme used prices on half a year - a year old model of a particular computer here in Norway, but it was deleted due to "price driving".

So price driving rule is for anything - current computers included? Not just retro goods? Can I comment on car prices without fearing for my account? Cost on my better halfs shopping sprees? (Right now the room is littered with frames, she disliked the naked walls. Now it'll look like a granny with a gazillion grankids lives here)

Like if someone was looking for a new laptop, and I tipped about a rebate on current thinkpad-models? Would that be illegal as well?

The ironic thing with the rant was that price driving was the problem I enlighted in the post. Everybody looks at what others are taking and ask the (highest), driving the prices up. So I see the price driving problem. Just don't want to step in that again, so just need a quick clarification if there is any cost or price at all that can be discussed?

I am new around these parts but as far as I am aware the rule is in place because, if people start labeling items with a value then there will be a lack of community spirit and instead of people asking what they think is fair, the site becomes another e-second hand shop as oppossed to a place to sell things more like an e-yard sale / car boot. :p

As you would imagine this would include all goods be they retro or not as people could potentially sell anything on here (there is an 'other' section in the hardware for sale section and i beleive in the software for sale section too.

The general rule is no mentioning prices, period (unless you're selling something here In which case you must state an asking price). But maybe someone with more Amibay life experience could go into more detail... ;)

It's a slippery slope. When does a computer become retro? Do mobile phones count as 'computers' (i.e. is a Nokia 9110 Communicator a 'retro computer'?) -- Best thing to do is to avoid discussing prices at all. If you've found a good deal that has a fixed buy price that you think the community might be interested in, that's fine, but comparing that to other prices is a no-no. Links to eBay BIN is fine, but not to auctions. (An eBay-style auction is the ultimate price-drive)

If it's a grey area, you can always PM someone on the staff to ask if it's OK to talk about.

Hi moijk,

I moderated your post since it was upset with prices on computer gear.

We've had price rants here in regards to car parts and broken water heaters :)

Like AndyLandy is saying, we allow links to BIN sales on eBay if there is no comments on the price.

Okay:
"I'm selling this on ebay, please have a look"

Okay too:
"Some guy is selling this BIN now item on eBay"

Not oaky:
"L@@k, that crazy guy - what does he think he haz???"

You don't have to fear for your account my friend, it was agains the rules, but I actually read your text before I moderated it. And I saw that you didn't mean to break the rules, only to ventilate some frustration.

If it's any consilation to you, I've broken the same rules too when I was new here, and now I find myself moderating this place :-P

Yup, I know the feeling. The rant about water heaters was mine!
