Hi all!
Armaeth - The Lost Kingdom recently came into my possession and I've learned that it's quite a rare and sought after PC game!

Being relatively new to PC collecting, I'm wondering why certain games like this command more than others and what are some of the ultra rare and most valuable PC titles?

Thanks!

Please be careful as this could be viewed as breaching our price driving rules. Please don't mention prices or specifics.

Some games do however gain more popularity, or a cult following long after release and can push prices up for some desperate to obtain them again. But as always the value of something is as much as the buyer is willing to pay.

One could say that discussing rarity and valuability of specific games would be price driving?

In generic terms, the PC games market is the same as any other collectable market.
Availability vs sought-afterness :)

Prices increase as something gains popularity - if the games are also rare, then prices increase further.
YouTube actually has a rather quantifiable effect on the popularity of games, which is unfortunate, but telling.

The most difficult one to find is.... Usually the one I'm looking for at the time :(

Availability vs sought-afterness
That is not always true though, some games like Final Fantasy 7 on PS, New Super Mario Bros / Super Mario Galaxy 2 on Wii are readily available in their hundreds at any one time on the other bay and they sold millions of them yet they still get a much higher price than other games which sold just as well or even better.

I don't normally associate PC games with being rare or collectible but I guess there must be some titles that are wanted.

^ it's as collectable as any other system, maybe more... 90s games were boxed with goodies inside... good luck getting Ultima Underworld with all the runes in the pouch for example... LOL

The newer Mario games are artificially inflated, because Nintendo hold their prices up, so they don't count. Final Fantasy is popular and sought-after - hence the price. If it wasn't selling, it would drop :)

Sold that one only 12 months ago and it had the runes. Thing is I know nothing about PC gaming and it went untested. Have to say I always thought PC games had little or no value but have seen over the last year or so the error of my ways. In fact I think old PC stuff is actually gaining in popularity where some other systems are in decline.

As for what makes a game valuable - well it's quite simply really,.... 2 or more people really, really, really want it and the mad eye takes over and they bid against each other uncontrollably determined not to be out done no matter how over budget they go. It's an illness:lol:

This of course sparks ideas in other sellers minds when they see what a game has previously achieved and they quantify setting a price based on that, which in turn makes that price become the norm, and so the price driving begins

I still cry myself too sleep that Mrs Fitz convinced me to recycle all the big boxes for my PC Games back in the day. I'd kept them all mint for years but she convinced me due to our lack of storage space they had to go. (We were in a very small flat at the time)

^^ Me too in a house move just lost one box, and guess what was in it..
My Registered Doom 1.6 , Doom II CD, Elite Frontier with patch floppy disc:), Full throttle, Day of the tentacle too name a few, absolutely gutted, why couldn't it have been be the dishes box or clothes :D

I'm sorry I wasn't aware of this when I created the topic. Feel free to close / delete this thread if you like!

always the way, when i moved from Victoria to Calgary, 9 years ago 2 boxes got 'left behind' (as members of my family began to decide for me what i needed and what i didnt as the truck began to get full)

one box contained 7 Commodore 1541 drives (all fully functional) + my Atari 1040STfm computer

the other was an Amiga 1000 (original box) that also had my A590 HD tucked inside, as well as a few other items such as a credit card holder containing all my TG16 HuCards, and a few pieces of original Amiga Software + my Kick/Work disks

Then you should reconsider your opinion

I´m only collection boxed PC point and click adventures games.
And there are a lot which are both very rare and very expensive due to their rareness.
Like other games the sealed ones are the most expensive ones too.
But I don´t care if they´re sealed or not sealed.
Complete and in a good condition are my requirements.
Besides adventure games I collect games that I played a lot as a teenager.
And talking about rare and expensive, try to find the early Commander Keen games ;)

From an adventure game collectors point of view some rare are:
- Indiana Jones in Revenge of the Ancients
- Master of Dimensions
- Bargon Attack
- Alice: An Interactive Museum
- Day of Tentacle (Triangle box)
- The Cassandra Gallaries

The rarest I own is a (deluxe) version of Cosmology of Kyoto (see picture).

Also:

- bud tucker in double trouble english version
- tequila boom boom boxed version
- black sect
- yellow brick road

And so on...

as i have been finding....any 80s/90s games released by KOEI :/
