Today I recieved a set of brand new Amiga keycaps from a1200.net and I love them. So I installed them on my Amiga1200. This is the last piece in a full restauration, as I bought the machine last year. In pieces and as a rust pile. So far I have done and upgraded the following on the machine....

- Recapping of the motherboard. Solid state caps. Machine will work untill chips die.
- New membrane.
- Changed floppy drive.
- New a1200.net case. Should have been grey, but is blu'ish-grey instead. (I like the colour)
- New a1200.net keycaps for Mitsumi Hybrid keybards.
- IndivisionAGA-MK3 scandoubler.
- Tsunami-1230 64mb Ram Accelerator.
- Buffered CF-IDE adaptor with extra 40-PIN IDE port.
- Kickstart 3.1 from Cloanto.
- Replica case badge with black chickenlips logo.

I am extremely happy with the result, and sorry for bad light when taking pictures.... It was a long process and not cheap.

EDIT:
I just went through my email. It turns out that I have bought the machine in feb of 2021, and not one year ago.....

As long as you are happy with the end result then that's all that matters.
Thanks. But I am after some input, on choice of colour and stuff.... It has taken me a year to restore. (you know, money is the issue)

Personally, I am quite fond of the original case color and keys. I have never been keen on the different colored cases that are available, but as the saying goes, to each their own and as long as you're happy :)

I currently have a spare A1200 motherboard without a case and have been considering putting it into one of those Checkmate 1500 cases, but they're not cheap.

Thanks.... I wanted to bring the cosmetic part into a more modern style. Else I would have gone with the original white case and keycaps. Regarding keycaps, then they only offer black keycaps for sale as of now. As far as I know, they will launch the original style later this year. But since the case is not white, then I went straight for black keycaps 2 to 3 weeks ago, when they hit sale on the webshop. I just wanted something different, that are not transparent. Kind of reminds me of both Atari Falcon and Amiga1200 in one machine, with hints of CDTV.

I think it looks great - I've been on a similar journey since acquiring an A1200 back in 2015.

Here's my specification:

- Recapped 1D4 motherboard
- New A1200.net case, light blue
- New A1200.net keycaps, black (I actually backed the Kickstarter in early 2017 so have been waiting a while!)
- Indivision AGA Mk2Cr Scandoubler with fan mounted above
- TerribleFire TF1260 accelerator, with Rev 6 CPU (full MMU and FPU), running at 100MHz, and 128 Mb RAM (with angled CF card adapter installed and 32MB CF Card)
- Buffered CF-SD Card adapter on mainboard IDE port, with 32 MB SD Card
- Kickstart 3.2.1 and fully optimised OS 3.2.1 installed
- Solas RGB board with addressable LED strip, temperature sensors, environment sensors, clockport splitter and fan controllers (driving Indivision fan)
- RTC Clock module on Solas board
- Bifrost Heimdall edition, customisable replacement case LEDs

Waiting to be added are:

- Custom TF1260 cooler (by Go0se), with integrated fan and heatsink - to be connected to Solas fan controller
- HID2AMI wireless gamepad and mouse adapter, with 3D printed enclosure
- Logitech M280 wireless mouse, blue (to match A1200 case)

There's not much else to do with this now :)

As Watson mentioned, I also have an A500 Plus with 2Mb Chip RAM expansion and TF536 accelerator, which I plan to put into a Checkmate 1500 case (black). That build will hopefully look something like this:

- A500 plus motherboard (battery removed, very clean and no damage present) with replacement coin cell battery added
- Trapdoor 2Mb Chip RAM expansion
- TF536 with 50MHz 68030 and 64 MB of Fast RAM
- Checkmate 1500 plus case, black, with Zorro adapter
- zz9000 graphics card, with audio and ethernet expansions
- CPU socket clockport adapter
- Solas RGB LED board with addressable LED strip, temperature sensors, environment sensors, clockport splitter and fan controllers for case fans
- Clockport USB ports added
- Hard disk activity light mod
- Wireless mouse and keyboard (I gather there is a solution for this for the A500 similar to the SUM1200 adapter)

This build will probably take a while, due to the cost and unobtanium nature of some of the parts :)

Cheers!

That is one sweet machine you have there. Looking really great.

wow, it looks like a C64 updated LOL but looks great and as others have said it's your choice and your love. I would remove the solid-state caps they destroy boards and can cause lots of problems when they blow. Man to ask about those is John he has argued for people not to use them. Otherwise well done another Amiga for the future..

Never heard about that. I did get it done by a recapper. But what would you have suggested to do?

Ah ha, so the Solas has been seen in the wild.. any idea if they will be available again ?

Not really - this is the first Solas board (SN 001), built by Rob Cranley. There are only a handful around (a few of the Scottish Amiga user group guys, and AmigaBill IIRC). I was involved in the project with Rob, hence why I have one.

Rob intends to do a run at some point, but it's impacted by the chip shortage, as well as limits on his time.

Can't begin to tell you how cool it is though :)

I watched his Demo on the Amiga Ireland webcast a few years back and was well impressed by it. Hopefully the chips he needs start to become available this year

Yep that's the one... back to doing what us Amiga Lovers do and wait patiently
