Really hate Steam! And all those game applications on PC

So I bought two copies of a game from one of the online sellers and they send you a steam gift, so I created an account for Sarah so she can play against me.

But! On steam you can't add any friends until you actually purchase a game, steam gifts don't count. So we can't play the game together that we've legitimately bought two copies of unless she buys some other game direct for steam, wtf is up with that?

Note you can start a LAN game together but you lose your progress each time, only way to continue progress is to 'invite a friend' into your game.

It's Saints Row Gat out of Hell by the way, we want to play co-op together.

I really hate these stupid limitations.

So I bought a 99p game and we're friends now. What a load of b.....ks lol
 
Hi it is a bit mad steve just to make friends why would it hurt? if you dont have steam brought games
 
I'm still getting to grips with all this online game buying business, I miss buying a game and actually owning it!

I don't really understand this family sharing stuff either, did I need to buy two copies? Not that it matters too much I got them cheap enough.
 
you can share your account and games with family members but you both can't play the game at the same time as far as i'm aware so yeah i think you'd still have needed two copies to play together

Im not a PC gamer but I got Steam to buy some Team 17 games. I hate how if you buy the disc you have to use Steam, why?? That happened with Civ 5, Ive never actually played it.
 
Lol, to be honest, the thing I found hardest to believe is that you found someone else willing to play a Saints Row game. :) Inflicting this sort of pain on yourself is silly, but forcing it onto someone else is just cruel. :)

Not wanting to hijack your thread, but whilst I have the attention of non-retro gamers.... anyone know what is happening to the PS4 Shadow Of The Beast reboot?
 
I had exactly the same issue when me and a friend tried to do an XCom game. He ended up having to buy something else also. It does suck but at least there are some very cheap games.

i liked saints row 3 and 4, both made me giggle like a child :)

so just to confirm, if a buy a PS4 with no games i can still play GTA and Drive with you guys?
 
Did you ever hear of a good Saints Row game? "Cheap GTA knock off" is probably the best way to sum up the series.

No, no. Saints Row is GTA with a big tongue in cheek. I've never gotten really excited about GTA but when I tried Saints Row, it just went so overboard straight from the beginning that I just had to see what happens next.
 
Sarah likes the saints row games because they are easy to pick up and play, not overly complicated and the story is actually pretty funny if you have our sense of humour. Think South Park.

The Co op mode on gat out of hell works great, of course it helps having two high end PC here. The PC versions run perfect on both my rigs, all ultra settings on my i5 gtx970 machine in 1080p and all high settings on my SLI gtx660 triple screen setup, 2d surround works perfectly which is more than can be said for most AAA titles!

The PC versions really blow the console ones away.

Ahh, I see Justin you were trying to be cleaver ;)

If you had a PS4 and I bought you a game, yes you would be able to play with us.

So why, if I buy Sarah a game and give it to her as a gift that has to be activated with steam it's a little unfair she can't play it online without buying a different game. We're not talking about free to play games here!

Don't get me wrong - I think the GTA games are hugely overrated, but I always found the Saints Row games to be just a lesser version of a GTA clone with much cheaper production values..... then again, I am fairly picky with games - I have yet to come across a single Xbox One or PS4 game worth buying (Strider was close, but not quite there) was looking forward to The Order.... then read the reviews. The Last Of Us doesn't count as it's pretty much just a re-release of the PS3 version.

Oh well, heres hoping Fallout 4, Dishonored 2, Halflife 3 or the next Bioshock game isn't too far off...
 
As far as i'm concerned steam has revived pc gaming and also is the one thing that stopped me downloading game torrents. The value if you wait for sales and the like is about what i feel i should pay for games, I find the price of consoles games £50+ to be an outrage.

In conclusion, i would put up with a couple of quirky things wrong with it because the benefits are much better. Personally im glad i dont have to have 200 game boxes in my room lol would run out of space fast
 
probably some one some where once made a new account then stole some steam passwords gifted them selfs a bunch of games from a multitude of others. and steam couldn't track them down due to them having never actually bought something them self.

that's the only reason i can think of.
 
I just set up a new account for someone this weekend and ran into the same problem. I think I was able to get them registered with the game via email and then was able to friend them.
