Hi Guys
I have been looking for a new case for my A1200 and seem only to find old PowerTowers or sub standard Infitiv ones. So I was wondering is there anyone here on Amibay that could make a Midi tower Rear Panel for us.

I Know there is a guy who has put up the panel for the Commodore PC Game case.

over to you guys

AL:thumbsup:

Good idea. I'll support this one.
I've bought myself the Commodore PC tower too (same one) and I'm struggling with this too. :)

Problem it there are thousands of cases and possible configurations with PCI cards, etc.

and herein lies the problem, there are sooooo many cases, how do you make a one fits all solution?

also if the plates were made the owners would most likely need to cut up their pc case and weld/rivet the new backplate on.

sadly these are custom things and should be treated as such

just my view on this

in theary you could make a panel for them all, whereby you would simply cut out a big slot and mount this one behind the other and bolt it in.

it would look alot like the power tower solution.

yes, but this still involves the owner cutting the slot, not as easy a task as you might think (well to do it nicely anyway:))

lol good point well made, although i don't think you get a choice of material when you buy a case? ali or steel mostly? maybe plastic, but you know i mean:lol::p

Possible way

Possible way

Hi Guys
I have been thinking about it I suppose it would be done in two moves,

1. The Buyer gets a case measures up the back and then sends the dimensions to the maker along with the case spec.

Some cases use a rivet system so all that would be needed is to drill out the rivets and reattach the new back. At the end of the day the buyer will more than likely be an enthusiast anyway so they know the score.

2. I am sure if this got off the ground the maker could even offer a complete case maybe with the buyer stating which case he'd or She would like modded.

I am as I said fed up with the standard Amiga cases mainly because they are so hard to get and most of the ones for sale are over priced or damaged.

If I had the skill It's something I would do myself I am sure a £40 pound case with say a charge for the change would be awesome but that would be up to the maker.

Back to you guys

Al

theres a few towers on ebay every now and then cheap that are of the right hieght etc for this purpose,so this might be a good idea.
(as this is how amiga suppliers are doing it in the first place)

but,i think its choosing the case thats the hardest part as amiga's arnt really a standard size for pc cases.(they need to be a bit taller to accomodate the motherboard)

Hi
Yeah I have my Power tower next to my Antec PC tower it would be an awesome conversion box

Hi Al,

I've been wondering about offering this as a service to the Amibay folks but I think the logistics of it all would out-weigh the return and a few people have already asked me if I could make a back-plate for them. I also only have some basic engineering skills so if I did it, the first few might be a trial by fire sort of thing. I'm also unemployed at the mo' so I would legally have to declare anything I might earn making such items, I think .

In answer to some of your questions.

1. You'd need to be pretty accurate with your dimensions, at least to 0.1mm or better accuracy IMHO. The buyer would also have to retro fit new standoff posts to mount the A1200 mainboard to the case.

You'd also need to consider what PSU you might like to use (if converting to ATX or m-ATX for mediator use) and where it would fit in the case plus any holes that would be required in the panel to allow for PSU mounting and ventilation, plus extraction fan holes, PCI cards and so on.

2. Yep that would be nice but the initial cost is then the responsibility of the maker and what if the buyer changes their mind half way through the conversion, wanted a different case or backed out of the agreement?

..and here's the $64M question. How many beer tokens would you realistically want to part with for the conversion? (@Mod's. this only here-say so I hope it's not price driving :D ).

All the best,
Ed.

Hi Ed
I like were you are going with this,

I think the best way would be if you could showcase some of the cases you could sell modded that way rather than you getting put out by cost you could then say well these are the ones on offer at this £price if you want one you pay up front and then the case can be made up and sent If you did a bit of straw polling on Amibay to see what would be the interest and which cases people like it might help you.

Or if someone does want a case back as I was asking about then they supply you with full details of the case plus any dimensions you might need if they screw up the sizes then it must be made clear in the Add that they are liable for cost might be sensible that item is only made once cost is paid.

It sounds a bit ruthless but having worked as a field engineer doing work for myself I know how some people can take advantage.

As for the Dole you would need to have solid orders and payments before you could even approach them to be honest might be an Idea to have a chat with citizens Advice first to keep yourself right.

Oh on a side note if you are looking for engineering work Belfast and Northern Ireland are screaming for people if you worked out of the harbour estate you could fly home when you needed to. Man Power are recruiting at the moment for bombardier they need 600 places filled. Or if you are lucky enough to be able to use CNC or Lathes there are some places over here looking engineers. I work for a company who supplies engineer grade metals to these guys.

Would love to do the training but its a full time course and I can't afford to give up a good job at the moment.
