Hello, I'm asking on behalf of a friend of mine who is trying to find anyone who has old issues of 'Public Domain magazine', an obscure UK Future Publishing magazine from 1992 which dealt with freeware and shareware for Amiga, ST and PC.

We're trying to locate the name of a specific Atari ST demo that was featured in one of the magazines, but we don't know the issue number or the name of the demo.

There are entries for the magazine on the Amiga Magazine Rack, but few page scans.

Does anybody have any issues handy, and could possibly help us locate this demo? Much obliged. :)

I've got a couple of issues of that magazine in my collection.

But, can you describe the demo? Might be able to guess it from that.

you could try eab as well, there pretty good at this sort of thing.

Thanks! I've been given the following description:
The ST demo I'm after has a screenshot showing an appallingly bad hand-drawn pic (think MS Paint. Except it was probably Neochrome or Degas Elite...) of Zippy from Rainbow sticking one finger up whilst smoking a huge spliff.
Can you see anything like that in your issues? :)

Aye, we've tried, but it's an awfully obscure magazine: it only lasted about a year.

I don't know any place bigger than EAB server...they have almost everything saved up there, included stuff that I have never seen before :) You may want to try to take a look at the ftp server

Hello,

Have you had a chance to look through your magazines, Harrison? :)

Bumping this thread in case anybody may be able to help. Cheers. :)

Bumping this thread, I know it's a long shot, but somebody surely must have this magazine somewhere. Cheers. :)

Patiently awaiting a response from anyone with any information on this. :)

I used to buy this magazine but I never kept them :(

I may have a couple but will have to spend a few hours looking to find them.

EDIT: I seem to remember one issue I kept for one reason. It came with a freebie that was actually of some use even if it was fiddly and it was called a "Tracey". Basically a little plastic lens thing with a cross-hair etched into it. The idea was you stuck this thing to your mouse and then somehow it would help in tracing around any picture you wanted to try and copy. I never really got the hang of it tho lol.

EDIT2: Looks like somebody wanted this demo sometime ago! There are quite a few archives here that might be worth looking at: http://no-fragments.atari.org/

Thank you Electroblaster, but we've actually made a lot of progress in the last few days!

A friend of a friend of a friend knew somebody at Future, and together they've been rummaging around in the vaults trying to figure this thing out. They've found good copies of all the old mags they wanted. I'm told it all seemed to work out in the end. I'm still waiting to see what its all about myself.

Somebody needs to scan these things! The magazine was that obscure if nobody bothers to save them, they will be gone forever!

Let us know the outcome of this demo as it has actually piqued my interest!

I am also an Atari user so anything like this will be good :D
