Hi everybody!

I found a old Amiga 2000HD for just about $75 cheap price with the 1084s monitor, in operating condition and KS 1.3. Keyboard and mouse in good shape and some patina and wear of course but over all looked great.

Had it for a month before i unpacked it again, and tried and it blacked out on me. so i opened it.

Motherboard B2000 Rev 6.2 and minor leakage damage, just needed to de solder the battery and clean up some of the leakage, then re solder a few corroded points near the MC68000 to get it working properly. being able to load and test some games from floppies.

Has a A2091 with rev 6.6chips on with 2MB and 30Mb harddrive. So no larger than 1Gb harddrive could be used. And the Workbench was in Dutch and that does not help me much hence i am Swedish and dont understand jack.

After thinking a lot and doing a whole lot of reading again i found my self trapped in this HELL again, and this is what i have ordered so far to upgrade it to begin with:

GVP G-Force Combo 030 (FW 4.15) 68030 50MHz MC Chipset and 8MB
Indivision OCS/ECS Flicker Fixer
Kickstart 3.1
Batteryholder with button battery replacement.

These are things i had laying around that i will insert:
IBM Ultrastar 18.3Gb Ultra-Wide SCSI with a 68 to 50pin adapter.
Pioneer 303S SCSI DVD-Rom yes i am aware of that i only can use CD's but it has a slot in =)

Next in line i think is a Floppy Emulator and Network card and then i think i will be done with it.

But of course there is always something you want and need to find and you know =)

Cheers!

Hi

Sounds like you're a man with a mission. Good luck and I expect you'll get lots of help and support on here, they're a good bunch.

Welcome! :)
Another bitten by the bug ;) but don't worry, as almost everyone here has the same situation ;)

just keep having fun and everything will be fine :)

I advice to not waste your time using most of 18.5Gb SCSI HD: most of them does not have termination nor active high byte termination and then the SCSI chain will become a pig to configure without spending MONEY on high-byte terminator(s) (those are a bit hard to find and not cheap).

I advice you to locate a 1 to 4.5Gb HD and upgrade the kickstart to 2.04 (or even 3.1) to really use the potential of the accelerator and then you can patch the system to use a large HD.

That said, good luck with your project! The A2000 is sturdy and made to last with the most decent prices for boards.

Oh, last but not the least: check evilbay every now & then for a Lantronic serial-to-ethernet adaptor (it is a modem emulator!). One or two serial connectors that you can hook into the house's router for lan & internet.

Thanks for the tip i will look in to the Serial-to-Ethernet adapter.

I managed to get put everything together with some help from a friend this Friday. Soldered the replacement Battery holder in place, removed Kickstart 1.3 and put in 3.1 and then removed Denise and put her in the Indivison ECS and put the package in the socket and. We then started to try to install stuff :D, but we had some issues with HDD and we could not figure it out really, accept the size where the issue we tought . Also we could not find the DVD Rom. After thinking and checking the device  I found out i was smart enough to put both devices on the same ID. After changing ID on the DVD Rom, we found both devices and managed to Partition a small partition for boot.

We installed Workbench 3.1 and then we installed several other drivers and things. Managed to fix larger partitions for the HDD. Put in thousands of mod's and other things. We put in WHDLoad and all the games and finally we had a match to the death in International Karate + ...

Everything works like a charm, i love how easy it is to find support and help for the Amiga =) Also having some knowledge from before didn't hurt either.

Just that now i want a PS2 Adapter for Keyboard and Mouse etc. and more stuff for Christmas =) Maybe i will ask Santa for some items :)

Thanks, for the comments everyone! Here is some pictures of the Amiga 2000HD, sorry i didn't take any insider pr0n pictures of the naked hardware. But i guess it's like with all women, you seen one you seen them all same basic principles and lovable creatures/things they are.
