If you couldn't go but want to see what was there then this is the video for you. It was a good event though nowhere near as big as Play Expo which I thought was better. The resellers had a lot of good stuff for sale but the prices were like top end ebay then add another tenner on top of that. [SNIP] If a mod classes this as price driving then edit it out, i'm just trying to give people an idea of how bad resellers are ruining collecting for old systems trying to overcharge buyers so much.

Was nice to meet some of the guys too, I remember Johnim (chief photographer), fitzsteve, justin and a few others whose names I forget (i'm terrible with names). John has photos of everyone though:thumbsup:

There was some talks going on, I sat through John's talk (Bacteria) as he gave a presentation on his Unity project. Some old 80s devs gave a bit of a group talk and took questions (didn't see just caught the end) someone Oliver was talking when I stuck my head in at the end and there was not an empty seat and they got a huge round of applause from the audience too.

As usual Double Dragon was chocka all day, never got a go on R-Type either and the Ridge Racer machine was pretty much in constant use too. The two giant Gameboy's were a novelty if a little awkward to play on, queue for the VR machine was always long and the Virtual Boy always had someone on it too (I really wanted to check that out too). On the computer side there was a lot of systems I had never seen before, the rarest I would think has to be the Amstrad Mega PC which had a cartridge slot for Megadrive games with branded Amstrad Megadrive pad!.

thanks for showing around acid

watched all the vid, looks like amibay was there right at beginning of vid

whatever was that semi naked man walking around with a crown aloft his head

i do agree with you about the resellers, i think there is a clash of mind-sets going on. The punters see it as an opportunity to maybe find some retro bargains and the sellers see it as an opportunity to sell their stock to their most enthusiastic audience, so use premium pricing. The end result being that both parties become frustrated with the other, unless some deal can be agreed

Well I'm home, and feeling very tired! Excellent weekend though! I agree some of the dealers there were pricey, especially the dealer near the AmiBay table, but there was some good stuff to be had. My mate picked up an A600 for [snip], which wasn't bad.

Did an evening meal / get together happen? I kept checking on here but didn't see anything concrete. We ended up having a wonder around wolverhampton and had a kebab :-) spent some time sat in the bar at travelodge trying to understand an irish guy!

Hope they do the same event next year, I'd go again :-)

I dunno, but I took him down on Soul Calibur, so my work was complete... :p

I didn't know you were there, if you'd come over and said hello you could have had your Everdrives! I had them in the car in case you turned up.

A bunch of us went for curry about 8PM, met in the bar just before going out.
Was the Irish guy called Darran by any chance? He was the one doing the pixel art pictures, we gave him a lift to the event on Sat and Sunday. Nice chap, I bought a Shadow the hedgehog for my lad from him.

Not sure if this was for me or trap, but for me i'm waiting until the nes ed's show up to get them all at once, whenever that's going to be :) Have to say I came over and said hello to everyone at the Amibay area at the time and Johnim was doing the introducing, so maybe you weren't talking to me afterall thinking about it lol

at 15min44sec the guy shouting is Septic Lemon from the RGR forum, he won 2nd place in the Warlords competition and got a sega master system 2 and games as a prize... Great video Acid!

Looked brilliant - just loved listening to that constant background noise of old retro tunes... sounded like an old amusement arcade from the good old days!

Thanks for sharing the video!

Brilliant video, great seeing Mr Dizzy getting so enthusiastic again, another high point of a brilliant event. Thanks for uploading :D

I don't think so, not sure what his name was, but I think he was just a contractor staying at the hotel. It's a shame I never got to chat to anyone from AmiBay, maybe next time I'll make more of an effort to come and introduce myself. I did wonder around the AmiBay tables a few times but I didn't speak to anyone :-(

If you'd come on the Sunday you'd have easily got a go on the arcade cabs, it was much quieter!
