Can I use the external SCSI port included on the back of the 3000 to connect a CD-rom? I see everyone using a 50 internal to 25 external adapter plate, but is it really necessary to do all that?

Not necessary at all.

You just need an external CD or DVD unit and a proper CD file system/driver. I recommend IDEFIX97, but it is not free.

Okay, do most SCSI CD/DVD drives use the 25-pin or the centronics 50-pin connector? Just to know what to look for :) other than that, this baby's solved

Most external cases have a Centronics connector, but usually external SCSI cables are 25 to Centronics.

BTW: don't forget to remove the on board A3000's SCSI terminator since you'll use an internal terminated device (the HD) and another external terminated device (the CD or DVD)!

If you buy the right SCSI connector (or make one), sure, why not?

Notice the seller have just the base unit, without power supply.
