SD card in old MP3 player

I have this old MP3 player that has an on-board 128 MB flash chip. I also have an SD card module meant for Arduino.

How tedious a job it would be to replace the on-board flash with the SD card module? Or is it just easier to try to find a bigger flash chip of the same form factor?

How big flash chip does the firmware support? Is the firmware on the flash chip?

Good question, had not taken that possibility into consideration. Have to do some digging.
