Progress so far.... if it can be called progress......

Installed 5 wires as per diagram - when I turn on C64, sdi2ec light comes on for a second then goes out

If I then put an SD Card in then the light stays on longer but then goes out.

entering the load "$",8,1 command reports back a device not found error

Now I don't know much about the C64 anyway, and I dont have much to put on the SD card (or even know if it works) so If someone could give me a little help just to prove this sdi2ec is actually installed and working i'd be massively grateful.

Hot software for your SD2IEC coming from my friend JAD/Phantasy.It's d64 to 1541 copy software. You can use it with jiffy dos and with 1541. It's fast and it writes whole d64 into 1541 in about 1:38.

More Progress and more questions.....

Well, after some much needed support off Zaxon (thanks!) I copied the sd2iec files to a TDK 2Gb SD (non-SHDC) card bought for the job, along with a couple of .d64 games d/l'd from t'internet. On turning on, it was exactly the same, red light, and no device found.

I then resoldered the whole thing, and got the same result

So, I 'borrowed' my camera's 8Gb SHDC SanDisk SD Card, copied the files to it and ..... success... but only if I put the SD card in AFTER I turn on the C64. If I do it before, then no files are found. It works EVERYTIME if I put the SD card in AFTER booting. I can load sd2.prg and load games etc.

Obviously, short term, this isn't a problem as I add to my library, but, eventually I want the whole thing to be internal so I ask....

(1) Is this normal ?
(2) Is it the SD card (Zaxon recommended a 1Gb card but I haven't got one yet)
(3) Is the device fussy with SD cards ?
(4) Surely there is a better file browser than sd2.prg - its a little 'ahem' BASIC isn't it ?
(5) Will this thing run quicker with my "Power" interface attached (I haven't got it with me to try as yet) ?

I can only say this is not normal. No idea where the issue lays. But I can turn mine on with SD card fitted and it will work just fine. Also you should be fine upto 2gb, mine runs a 2gb card.

I have a browser called fb.prg, not sure where I found it but its perfect for going in and out of folders to load games. I can attach it here to a post if you want it, as I forgot where I found it.

Hope you get it all sorted.

Here's the file browser called FB I had to change the name just rename it back to fb.prg
