Hey guys,

I have a pc (running Ubuntu) with a wired internet connection.

The pc has two ethernet ports, the connections go like this:

Cable -> Router(192.168.1.1) -> PC(192.168.1.103/eth0) -> (eth1)Amiga(ariadne/miami)

How can I get this to work?! :) I've been reading about masquerading, iptables, all kinds of stuff all day and haven't gotten it working :( Any ideas?

There is no way for me to physically run another cable from my router to my Amiga. I would really like to take the incoming 192.168.1.103 assigned to my pc's eth0 and somehow share it with the amiga via the pc's eth1 card... thanks for the help :)

What IP did you assign to eth1?
It should be something on a different subnet so you can route/masq...
Something like 192.168.2.1.
Then set the Amiga to something like 192.168.2.2 with a GW of 192.168.2.1.

Then it's something like:
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o $eth0 -s 192.168.2.2 -j MASQUERADEYou also need port forwarding enabled:
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
I'm probably forgetting something.. Sorry.. Don't usually try to do this from memory.. :-)

good luck

Thanks for the help :) I have to give this a rest today..about to rip my hair out lol. I'll tackle it again tomorrow and report any issues I come across.

Thanks!

Dear ESC,

so, you wanrouter has only one port for local network, your pc has 2 ethernetcards (which makes it an lan sharing/routing machine)?
Or is the reason for this chaining the cable (rj45 on wanrouter, bnc/coax on Amiga)?
Did you try and put another pc/laptop at the cable your Amiga is on now?
Did you try and "skip" the routingpc and connect the Amiga directly to the wan router?
In case of coax...you know about terminators?
Amiga reportedly does not allow for DHCP, static ip-settings need to be made in lotsa tiny configfiles and/or a gui.
Goodluck and have fun :)

There are ports on the router but I'd like to eventually port forward specific traffic from the linux box to the Amiga. Long story. :)
The Amiga works with dhcp, I've tried it with Miami plugged straight into the router. So that's not such a big issue. The issue is how to configure the PC. And it's not coax, it's rj45.

If I can do static IP off of the PC, assign it that way, and then set it up as such, that would be preferred anyway.

Thanks man :)

Dear ESC,

sofar i hear a lot of "things already working" :)
You have:
wanrouter works, doing routing and dhcp server.
linuxpc works as workstation, dhcpclient
amiga-miami works, dhcpclient.
Now you want the linuxbox to run routing/dhcp/proxy software, that would safe you from having to add a cheap switch.
Linux does have software for that...freebsd and squid come to mind.
