I work at home so no change there. What spare time I have will be spent moving to a new place next week. Hopefully it will go without too much trouble.

My girlfriend is Chinese and has bought food for 1 month. We don't know where to put it. She is very afraid.
Her family is quarantined in China.
From China it is thought that Spain (and also Europe) does not take this virus seriously.

In one of the big DK newspapers I've read an article yesterday about a Chinese guest student who contacted the paper trying to voice that DK people (not the government but the people) don't take this situation seriously. Other students at his university laugh at him wearing a face mask. But the last straw was before contacting the paper that a girl in his dormitory came back from ski holiday from Northern Italy and WAS diagnosed with corona infection, and still she went to party, and went out to shop etc. until she couldn't anymore. And her roommate who was living with her all the while, was also just walking around because she didn't feel sick instead of self quarantine. Are we in DK this stupid? Amazing.

The chinese student explained that in China every single person took the situation very seriously from day one, followed every rule and more. Families elected one person only to go shopping, and families paired up so if one family went to isolation/quarantine they stayed put while they were brought food from the other. Communities started disinfecting common areas (door handles, rails etc.) regularly. People got tested multiple times at the earliest. Etc.

When im not "at work" (im working at home as im a programmer) im playing with my retro computers. Amiga, C64, speccy, Coleco, lots of them. Also watching a lot of TV series :-)

It seems to me like most people here take it quite seriously now but there's always some percentage of people who are thick who won't get it until their own grandmother dies from it (and even then, they might still question it). The bad part is that they are not just putting themselves at risk, but everybody around them. Perhaps the situation doesn't look too bad right now if you look at it isolated in DK right now (we only had like 1½ death from it so far) but if we don't act now, the health care system will be overrun and bodies will start to pile up like they do in Italy already. There's no reason to think that what is happening in Italy could not happen here as well.

Reminds me of this quote from Men In Black:
A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it.

Talking about stupidity : Here in Belgium they kept Lockdown parties on Friday evening (which was the last day pubs and restaurants were open)... :-(

People buying a shitload of TP should spend some time in the middle east. No paper needed, just a spray of water is enough... so I don't understand the hording of TP [emoji6]

I'll do homeworking, and in my free time read all those retro computing books I bought the last few years.

Apparently, (according to medical experts) the toilet paper hoarding is pure psychology. It's cheap and easy to stock in relatively large quantities, so you look at the pile at home and feel nice and safe and cozy. It's kind of the hoarding equivalent of rocking yourself when feel threatened.

In my case, my new comfort food is mackerel filet in tomato sauce. Weirdly, I ate like 3 cans yesterday while watching the news, even though I still have normal food at home. :D Talking about of whomever should throw the first rock..

Well, in some cases it can result in diarrhea so if you happen to become sick and have to isolate yourself for 14 days with runny bowels, you would need a pretty decent stock of toilet paper. And remember that buying large quantities of canned foods only makes sense if you don't eat it all immediately when you get home. :)

That's fine, but I don't think that was the reason to hoard it. There were several more essential items that were NOT hoarded and sold out in shops. One can always wash his bum in the shower but you can't conjure up food.. So I think it was more on the psychology side than anything else.

I didn't buy large quantities. At all. I bought like 6 cans. But for some reason I ate 3 immediately which doesn't make any sense since I have other fresh food. And this is my point, it fascinates me that people (including myself), behave irrationally now. I have NO idea why I thought eating the canned food was good idea, it just felt good. (And actually mackerel in tomato I think is quite tasty ;) )

Perhaps this would be the time for shops to start advertising bidets which are very uncommon here - if you have a bidet, you basically have a life long supply of toilet paper. :)

Actually canned mackerel was also among the items that were hoarded and sold out in many places last week. But it's also a great crisis-food since it is quite nutritious, have a very long shelf-life and can be eaten straight from the can which makes it useful in some situations e.g. when you're without electricity (it's also very popular festival-food for those reasons). And I also think it tastes great, so what's not to like?

Working from home for the foreseeable future. Keeping myself busy otherwise with projects. Just finished fully cleaning and lightly retrobrighting my A3000 mouse and keyboard. Now working on a full recap, analog RGB mod, and retrobright of a seriously yellowed free 1902 monitor I got a while back.

This is where I will be self isolating:

Never changing that wallpaper lol. It's got too much character!

I saw a report last night on TV about the company (see picture for hint) that makes a popular UK brand of toilet paper ... 4 million rolls made every 2 weeks and they have 6 factories here in the UK churning them out 24/7!

Why is there a shortage in stores? It simply boils down to the supply chain not being able to cope with the demand (panic buying) from Joe Public.

Love this pic, think I might use it as my avatar for a while, if you do not mind miggymad:D

Well, I'm ready to start panicking just about now. I had to close my PC repair workshop for customers on Monday 16th. The company I do most of the work for also doesn't know how long they can stay afloat. I'm still good for one month but then things could get ugly. Basically, if I lose this last customer, I'm left with no income and a load of bills to pay. I'm already going through my stuff and deciding what will end up on eBay and here. Worst case, I'll have to move in with my parents again at 42.

Sad but true, things are getting ridiculously bad! On the one hand, you get closer to family (not always the case), but on the other hand, it is becoming a matter of survival. @Half-Saint : Hope things get better soon for you!
I have been working on the cockpit front a bit, it's been a while that i haven't done much for it. Will post pics soon.

I’m fortunate that I have a key worker job and will still keep getting paid every month although I do have to brave the ongoing madness outside at the moment, my wife has been very kind though and let me have more gaming time than I usually manage :)
