Hi Tony, I have just ordered a SIDFX, I take it the SwinSID will be fine ? Will be used as a 6581![]()
Im interrested in 2 pieces.
Payment done.
Small question. Is possible to switch between 6581 and 8580 in real time ? (when C64 is power on ? I just want to make some switch to the outside of C64)

you can configure the swinsid to work as a 6581 or 8580 by means af two jumpers installed on the pcb. Note that the setting act only on the way (the tone) that the swinsid plays (more like a 6581 or more like a 8580).
if you want to change on fly the setting you can solder a switch to the two jumpers connected in this way:
- the central terminal of the switch to gnd (you find the gnd on the right pins of the upper and the bottom jumpers)
- the other two terminals of the switch to the left pins of the bottom and upper jumpers.
hi Tony,
is the firmware You use the "Lazy John Fix" or "HC"?
Payment sent for 1![]()
Thanks for the heads up STR, I have an original 8580 so the SwinSID would be set up in 6581 mode. How difficult is the manual set up? Thanks![]()

Hi
the fw is the "lazy john fix".
The "HC" is not available on the net ... or at least I was not able to find.
Anyway the swinsid is always upgradable with a USBASP ISP programmer.

The SIDfx has a configuration utility: http://www.sidfx.dk/config-tool
Tony's SwinSID can be configured with jumpers first, then you can setup the SIDfx board with the config tool software. However, I'm not sure if it's necessary because the jumper setup should tell to the SIDfx board the voltage requirement (probably the filter setup as well), so I guess you can skip this step.

As far as I know the HC update is not public. You can contact CodeKiller directly and ask him about the details of the HC update.

The 6581 works with 12v and 5v. The 8580 with 9v and 5v. So they are electrically incompatible as they need different power supply.
The swinsid works with the 5v only. So it's electrically compatible on boards supporting 6581 and 8580.
If the SIDFX configuration is used to change the power supply ... so I think it's not necessary for the swinsid.
