Sid Meier is back with a new Alpha Centauri (1999), one of the greatest sci-fi turn based strategy games I've ever played. Sid Meier's Civilization Beyond Earth as it's titled, will not be a simple remake of Alpha Centauri but rather a "what would happen after Civilization V" (according to the devs).

Excellent News this is.....After Colonization my favourite turn based game of all time

I love Alpha Centauri but I can see this new title going either way...

One of the big things about Alpha Centauri was its character. It had a pretty rich background and the factions and their leaders were all really well fleshed out. If this new game is missing all that, it won't be anywhere near as good as the original.

I've even got the three Alpha Centauri novels they released... the writing is fairly mediocre and the last in the trilogy was released about 6 years after the game came out so its pretty hard to find.

To be honest I don't really like Civ 5 that much, changed too much of the classic formula. Before the expansions it was pretty much 'whoever has the most gold wins' and 1 unit per tile just makes waging war tedious. I didn't like that Colonization remake they did on the civ 4 engine either- Felt like it was missing something.
