Just wanted to know the thoughts of the members on here about solid state drives.

I am thinking about getting one for a quicker boot on my OS but are they really worth the money ?

I bought one for my latest build and it boots Win7 in 10 seconds flat and is useable right away!

I also use one in my Micro AmigaOne and it's fast and quiet! Well worth the money IMHO

Best upgrade I've made to both a 27" iMac as a boot drive and my sisters 2010 Macbook pro.

Tried lot's of drives but found the sweet sport on price performance to be:

Corsair GT 120GB, from Scan or Amazon @ £105.

Reliable, and the macbook now gets closer to it's 10 hour battery life it used to. Apps don't even bounce in the dock whilst loading now, just click them and they open

Plan on picking up a couple more of these for both my main pc and my alienware laptop shortly.

fitzsteve: 10 Seconds? :o How do you make it go faster?

Danno, it's still quite a fresh install - AMD Bulldozer 4.2ghz X4, 8GB Ram OCZ Agility 500mb/sec SSD (120gb £80 on eBuyer with free shipping) :)

Mine is 20 Seconds on window 7 with my SSD and how can I make 10 seconds or lower:unsure:

i was thinking about 1 too but dont want to reinstall again

steve thats you a1 in 10secs

Ok looks like I lied it boots in 24 seconds but you loose 6-7 seconds at the ASUS splash screen!

Before I kind of counted in my head from when you get the Windows Loading screen come up :coffee:

Looks like I count slow

steve turn the splash screen off

It's cool - she's still way fast enough for me. my old PC took forever to boot and even after booting took a few mins before I could actually use anything! This setup is useable right after booting :)

I built almost the exact same system for a customer last week and...

I want one!

Quickest Win7 install *ever*. Certainly made my job of building it easier, everything installed and prepped in the blink of an eye. Once all sorted for drivers, AV and software I remember I timed it at 25 seconds.
