I got my GBS8220 on wednesday, and i am really impressed! I never thought that the image quality is so good.

But i have not taken +5V from the viedeoconnector because it is only up to 100mA there. I take power from the external Diskdrive.

Some pictures are in this thread on a1k.org

Ye that's the lines i was thinking of, taking it from a floppy power connector or something (soldering and wiring just isn't my thing). Did you source all the needed parts yet Johnim?

i have some hoods and waiting for some 23pin sockets from tomthul in america

So once they arrive you will have everything needed? (when the cables off the device are sent over).

As for the power source i think i was getting a little confused but i now see when it's wired to pin 23 it will draw power from the amiga video port, does this mean that for amiga use no other power supply will be required? if it is i'd prefer it that way.

Other thoughts, has anyone got a way of covering the finished cable up with a plastic sheath like other cables or are we just going to have to live with a lot of wires flopping around?

If you wire up both the 5v AND the 12v from the Amiga video port, you will not need any external power supply.

John, once you get everything needed could you stick me down for a cable too please? I've finally just ordered a GBS8220 for myself as for only £20 I could resist no longer. :)

Gents,

This has been discussed on EAB in length.

The board will only support ECS, and not AGA colour depths. Any screen mode with more than 32 colours will look lacking.

AlexH on EAB has posted about it. Search it on EAB.

For me even AGA demos looking nice with the GBS8220...
Are there some pictures in the tread over at eab?

If you are talking about this or this thread, then I can't see anyone who clearly proved that it's not 24bit, or the opposite  Could you point out the post?

heres cosmicfrogs cable

i never used resistors as it did not seem to make a differnce

i soldered the adapter cable straight to the 23 pin socket

i used some multicore sheath after removing the wire from it an looks ok or you could use some heat shrink

i have 5 23pin sockets with enclosures

say £2.50 plus pp back when done just to cover above socket and cover

so far peeps who want a cable made

If I am reading this thread correctly, this device will upscale 50Hz screenmodes to 60Hz. Does it noticeably affect scrolling in PAL demos and games? Make them kinda jerky or are they still smooth.

What kind of monitor is everyone using with this? TFT or CRT?

I am thinking this and a nice 15 inch TFT would be about perfect for the Amiga.

No effect on gameplay speeds or demo speeds - only speeding up the video signal, not the actual machine itself :)

TFT

So no noticeable jerkiness to smooth scrolling or any kind of lag?

AGA dithering?

High Res Screenmodes with no flickering?

no screen lag/jerking of the picture on my 19" TFT monitor

Picture shows interlace screen from my monitor and NO flickering :)

I've been using one of these for my Neo Geo for a while, its an awesome board. The only problems I have are slight shimmering on the top of text and the odd split second GFX glitch. Combined with an SLG3000 scanline generator it looks great. Highly recommend it.

John, be careful with supplying the board with the +5V output of the video connector. I think this board needs more than 100mA to run correctly.

This sounds like a really great solution.

Sounds like I need to order me up one of these.
