Looking for a specialist to check what's wrong with a CPC Disk drive.

Bought external FD1 disk drive on Ebay, and figured Belt is broken.
Belt exchanged, drive cleaned, but still keeps saying No disk inserted.
Checked the external housing with my 6128 internal drive, and this is working great. So the external housing is working.
But the drive refuses to work weather in external housing nor internal in my 6128.

Motor for disk rotation is working.
But the stepper motor is not reacting when I try to access a disk.
But I did see once the stepper motor moving to the beginning, so not sure if the stepper motor is the problem.

At first I did connect the external cable between my 6128 and FD1 the wrong way.
Could this have broken the drive ?

Any Help would be appreciated.

have you lost the write protect pin?

i could have a look at it but its quite distance to send anything

I haven't noticed anything falling out, when I disassembled it.

Besides, even if I would have lost the write protect pin, it should still detect a disk inserted, wouldn't it ?
I should only experience problems on writing to a disk, if the pin would be missing, right ?

yes, that's correct
So, if i got You right, if You put the disc on and write: CAT
You got the message that the disc is missing?
can You make a photo please? I am pretty sure, You have a disk drive without pin, there is a sensor instread..
i have four non-working drives here, and also wrote a repair request, but nobody want's repair them, so i started to do it by my own with a little progress, at least, i'll try..

correct.
I even get the disk missing error when I change to drive B with
|B

even tho a disk is inserted.

can you push the head to the center of the disk spindle and insert a disk and see if the head moves

Yes, I tried already, but it doesn't move the head any more.

I only saw it once moving back to the beginning, but can't reproduce it again.
Pretty weird.

Maybe the Zero-position sensor is blocked or so ?
Do you have an idea where it is located ?

Ok, found the position for the Zero-position sensor.

OMG, I found something.

Looks like the Disk-Inserted Sensor is loose:

Let me solder it quickly and do a re-test.

Wooooooooooo-Hooooooooooooo

That was the failure.
The drive is now working like a charm :D

Thank you so much guys for your help.

Just the disc-insert sensor soldering points have been loose, that's why the step motor didn't bother to move.

Admins, you might want to make this thread sticky, as it's a good guide for finding failures for CPC Disc drives.
