I sold my 1541 ultimate on here, to buy this cartridge. This cartridge can work stand alone and can work with a real C64. It provides an 1541 emulation(load from sd cards) but also a lot more like vga support for C64.

It even runs cartridge software from the past to make a C64 a more easy personal computer.

After a short wait I received a well packed package from Amigakit. At first I did think it was broken, since I thought it took power from a separte usb port, wich is in fact for data to pc used.:blased::nuts:

There is not much to google, you get an A4 paper with Chameleon, pointing to a tech support website and a beta page on individual computers website.

Upgrading it (for new C64 core and Amiga minimig core) resulted in usblib errors in default windows xp, so I started linux and copied the batch file lines to do it manual, in linux it upgraded perfectly. Anyhow Beta as stated, and using batch files in 2011 in windows a bit eh well eh old school:oops:

After Amigakit support told me to put usb power to different cable, it seemed to work, but with a lot of distortion, wich came from USB psu :help: So it needs a good usb psu if used stand alone.

I cannot believe that such hardware needs to follow trends and take USB power.:help:

Anyhow, once I got it running I was impressed, even they say this is Beta stage I tried 5 favorite games on C64 and they all run, even without the C64 the software runs as expeted :nod: (the same for the minimig amiga part)

In fact it even runs minimig core perfectly. One small minus is it looses the C64 joy ports and C64 keyboard then, so external keyboard and commodore cdtv remote is needed then..

Well some fun pics:

An untelling operation wolf started from the filebrowser it has:

ps/2 keyboard
cdtv remote control
native c64 ports and keyboard

The chameleon boots up to this screen - standalone and in the back of the C64.

The option list is almost 2 full computer pages

You can simply start-mount using the file browser any d64 file

Although it is a Beta product, I really like this product, and probably it has a lot more potential. I hope one day the minimig core supporting the C64 i/o, and maybe more emulation options, but I am quite sure it is going to get there.

For me the 1541 emulation is well enough, and there is still a lot to try out for me. Hope you enjoyed some of the screens.

Looking at the value of this cartridge, it really brings a lot features. The ultimate II was a really nice 1541 replacement, doing exactly that:thumbsup: This one is more all purpose.

Simply great, this hardware is made and sold:bowdown:

very interesting, i'll have to read up about this ...

nice pics too :-)

Hmm, I think I want one of these beasties...

Thanks for sharing mate...

TC

mfilos has one too... it is trully a great piece of hardware!

Thanks, I am giving in to my SID file adiction right now. Will have to invest some more time into tech postings to get more results out of it. Sure one day this blows Amiga out of the sky :D I had some games not working, but the same as on other solutions.. Ah Mfilos has it as well? Nice to hear:)

Yep I do :)
You can check a video of it running ClassicWB 68k with Rebel's Palette here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U89WNP26b6M

Also, for standalone mode, Jens will release pretty soon an addon that will connect to Chameleon's C64 connector and will provide Joystick ports and an keyboard connector ( for modders putting it inside a blank C64 case :) ).
Also core has been upgraded to version 6c and if you join the Yahoo Group you'll see that there is a long discussion and troubleshooting.

Fun times ahead \o/

drool droool, ribbits  me like me want one, me cant afford one

Tell me guys

The DIN connector on the break out cable is it IEC, ie for a real 1541 to allow copying over Floppy Discs.

Mario --- fantastic vid my friend, very impressive, this little gadget seems to be a minimig replacement with C64 thrown in too.
Would love a little more detail in a new thread on how you set up Classic Worbench & the minimig core.

My resistance is breaking down by the minute, I want one.

TC

@thecorfiot

Do you want me to demonstrate one for you? Let me know and I can bring one over or you can pop into the office if you are in the area

Great :) I was hoping to have ordered mine, but needed a few things first. Maybe next month :)

That bit of kit is quite amazing!

32MB! is it a programmable core - say I wanted to ruin a Spectrum / SAM coupe' or such the like by loading a core, is that possible?

Well the connector is there, I did not test it.

I think that is possible, but not available yet. Here is the developer page. For me it looks the same like minimig-c-one etc..

Looks great! :) I would like one of these soon too, it has potential to be something like an FPGArcade which is very interesting.

there is a ZX core for c-one, not too bad... but as you see the state of the developers is in a "special" mode (aka we-don't-give-a-****-to-current-customers)

Mario / Jurgen

What's SD Card compatibility like guys...

Does it support SDHC, ie >2GB or not,
What are you guy's using.

Mario.......Pls, a little tutorial on setting up the minimig core & getting CWB to run mate, is it compatible with existing HDF files as used on WinUAE...

Cheers Guy's

TC

I use a default 4 gig card branded for a local dutch shop. It seems to work great, no windows fat repairs needed untill know.

TC my friend, this is the procedure that I followed to install ClassicWB 68k to my Chameleon:

- I created a test 100MB HD image under WinUAE and setup WB3.1 on it and copied
it into the SD Card. Under WinUAE image worked just fine and booted fine as
well.
- I assigned in the Minimig Menu the Hard Drive image, under Minimig settings.
- Hard drive image doesn't boot at all. IIRC it didn't even appear on the Early
Startup Menu.
- I booted the Install 3.1 floppy disk via Minimig Menu and booted into WB3.1.
- Running HDToolBox and the HD image was recognized so I installed it as new,
and after a restart, I formated it.
- I copied the image from the SD card under WinUAE and HD was found just fine
but NOT as a classic image that you could assign the drive letter etc.
- I setup ClassicWB 3.1 in it and copied it again over the SD Card.
- This time the HD image booted and this is what I uploaded to YouTube :)

HDF files created in WinUAE and setup there, don't work well in Chameleon. But the HD is recognisable just fine under it. Just create the HDF file, mount it and format it under Chameleon and then you can setup whatever you want under WinUAE and copy it back to the Chameleon :)

I also tried 3.9 basic setup from WinUAE (A600/020/8MF Fast) that worked just
fine with .hdf file but not on Chameleon. It gives an Suspend/Reboot requester
of C:MakeDir.

We'll have to wait for more juice in the future :) Till then BetterWB3.1 or ClassicWB 68k are just fine \o/
