I sold my 1541 ultimate on here, to buy this cartridge. This cartridge can work stand alone and can work with a real C64. It provides an 1541 emulation(load from sd cards) but also a lot more like vga support for C64.
It even runs cartridge software from the past to make a C64 a more easy personal computer.
After a short wait I received a well packed package from Amigakit. At first I did think it was broken, since I thought it took power from a separte usb port, wich is in fact for data to pc used.:blased::nuts:
There is not much to google, you get an A4 paper with Chameleon, pointing to a tech support website and a beta page on individual computers website.
Upgrading it (for new C64 core and Amiga minimig core) resulted in usblib errors in default windows xp, so I started linux and copied the batch file lines to do it manual, in linux it upgraded perfectly. Anyhow Beta as stated, and using batch files in 2011 in windows a bit eh well eh old school
After Amigakit support told me to put usb power to different cable, it seemed to work, but with a lot of distortion, wich came from USB psu :help: So it needs a good usb psu if used stand alone.
I cannot believe that such hardware needs to follow trends and take USB power.:help:
Anyhow, once I got it running I was impressed, even they say this is Beta stage I tried 5 favorite games on C64 and they all run, even without the C64 the software runs as expeted
 (the same for the minimig amiga part)
In fact it even runs minimig core perfectly. One small minus is it looses the C64 joy ports and C64 keyboard then, so external keyboard and commodore cdtv remote is needed then..
Well some fun pics:
An untelling operation wolf started from the filebrowser it has:
ps/2 keyboard
cdtv remote control
native c64 ports and keyboard

Chameleon and wire mess: break out cable, vga connector - sound connector

The chameleon boots up to this screen - standalone and in the back of the C64.

The option list is almost 2 full computer pages

You can simply start-mount using the file browser any d64 file

The minimig core for Amiga emulation starting. Promosing and working, exept c64 keyboard and joysticks are not working.

Although it is a Beta product, I really like this product, and probably it has a lot more potential. I hope one day the minimig core supporting the C64 i/o, and maybe more emulation options, but I am quite sure it is going to get there.
For me the 1541 emulation is well enough, and there is still a lot to try out for me. Hope you enjoyed some of the screens.
Looking at the value of this cartridge, it really brings a lot features. The ultimate II was a really nice 1541 replacement, doing exactly that
This one is more all purpose.
Simply great, this hardware is made and sold
