1. Will sata hard drives work in Amiga's using a sata to pata adapter such as this one?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PATA-IDE-...829?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27bf36f285

2. When using CF adapters, how can I tell what cards will work in them? I have some adapters I bought from China ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320565083709?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 ) and the card I'm trying to use ( http://www.i4home.co.uk/20111006/1001.JPG ).

It's in a tower so the cables and power it requires is no prob. I tried to sort out the card in WinUAE disabling the harddrivecheck. It partitioned, formatted and installed WB fine in there and windows no longer sees it as a formatted disk. But when I put it into my A1200 on the 4 way i/f it either doesn't see it, stops anything else being seen on the ide chain, or occasionally i can get it to show up as 2 disks (I did partition them into 2x4gb) on the WB but no program knows what to do with them.

They show up with the wrong device names/numbers, hdtoolbox sees something but cannot recognise what it is. When I formatted it in WinAUE etc i installed SFS, I just cannot see what I am doing wrong. Any ideas anyone?

3. Recently I've been trying to play The Settlers, it used to work fine when I had an 030, but these days I have an Apollo 060 and it will not go past the copy protection screen. Is this a known problem?

Appreciate any insights.

Probably yes. I've tested a couple of them in my A4000, but take notice that it seems they're strickly to one unit only, so plugging this you will have to stay only with your HD, no CD-ROM/RW etc stuff unfortunately. Unless you go to the FastATA method by Elbox.

If you don't have WhdLoad installed, then it's advised to disable your accelerator card during booting by pressing the corresponding key which is mentioned in the manual (don't remember which one right now).

the sata to pata should work

what have you connected to your idefix adapter and on what ports

the sata adapter has no master/slave like ide so only only 1 device per channel

most cf adapters will work and most cf cards

you will need an updated scsi device/or the idefix software for anything bigger than 4gb

Great i think I will have to order one of them then, I have a 150gb drive sitting here doing nothing and I want to use to replace two old drives (20 and 1.2gb) which I use on the same channel so that will be fine. I changed out my cd drive for a dvd drive/cd writer the other night and it seems to be reading dvd's fine (except those with massively long file names).

So I plan on putting the 150gb drive on one channel, and the dvd drive on the other with hopefully the cf drive on that channel with it. Im using idefix97 along with sfs with the current hard disks.

Here is another question, regarding the 4 way i/f. Im using both the 40 pin connectors now for the hd and dvd drive, but there is also a 44pin connector free still, can anything else be connected to these at the same time? or am I thinking its 2 from the 3 ports?

For The Settlers problem ive always used it installed from the games own installer. Do i take it WHDL fixes any cpu problems for higher end accelerators? also will it still be able to save to hard disk?

no if you use the 44 pin connector the first 40pin dosent work
so just 1 44/40 or 2 40s

the 44 was for 2.5in hard drives as most were only master
but some could be hacked for master/slave

i have used settlers with my 060 from origional install disks and book for copy protection
the whdload has no protection and works too
