Sony PlayStation 2 Console & Linux Development Kit

The official "Linux for PlayStation 2" kit was released by Sony in 2002 and sold out soon afterwards. It ​

converts a standard "fat" PlayStation 2 into a fully-fledged computer and software development system.​

This bundle includes a fully-compatible PlayStation 2 with the Linux Kit hard drive and network adapter ​

installed, all of the cables and accessories that came with the kit originally and some handy extras to ​

help you get the most of out of the system.​

​

I used this kit to learn how to program the PS2 and to create a demo that lead to my first job in the games ​

industry so it has some sentimental value and I hope to pass it on to someone who will enjoy it as much​

as I did. All the components have been in storage for at least the last 5 years and are in great condition. I ​

have tested the system with both games and booting the Linux disc and found it to be in full working order.​

Right now the system is set up to boot DMS Explorer and there is a selection of goodies (emulators, media ​

players, games loaders etc) installed on the hard drive. However it's a simple procedure to wipe the hard drive​

and install Linux and full instructions are supplied with the Linux discs.​

​

This kit includes a hard-to-find VGA adaptor for connecting the PS2 to a PC monitor, official controllers​

and memory cards, the original manuals, protective wrappings, box and polystyrene inserts. It also includes​

a special Edge magazine supplement from the launch of the PS2 that will interest anyone who remembers ​

the massive hype around the PS2 at that time.​

It's set up to load DMS Explorer from the memory card using the Linux boot disc, so no mods are needed.

I also have an S-BOX modchip that plugs into the USB port and a set of Swap Magic discs, these will be included. These allow loading code from CD-R and (I think?) DVD-R.
