Hello,

First time poster here after scouring Google for UK CRT repairs.

Anyone able to offer repairs? I'm based in Telford but can travel to drop off/pick up.

I have a loved Sony Trinitron KV-14V4U which I use quite often for playing my MISTER on.

Unfortunately it died the other day, I left the room for a few minutes whilst it was on and when I returned there was no picture and a strong smell of burning plastic.

After letting it cool down for an hour I took the back off for a look. I couldn't see anything that looked burnt or any capacitors that had looked to have popped. Following the smell with my nose it smelt like the burning was coming from a transformer (circled on picture - may not be what I say it is 😊).

I tried to power it up again for science. There was a good sound like the TV normally makes when it is trying to start but no picture appeared and there was a bit of a fizzing noise before that stopped. I unplugged it again then in case I caused further damage.

To be fair its full of dust and the battery that retains the time and calibration settings has gone so its in need of a bit of TLC if anyone is up for it.

i'll have a look at it,but wont make any promises

i think you have post open on reddit?

Yeah that's me, I tried emailing a few suggested people but I haven't had any joy so just kept googling. I would really appreciate it if you wouldn't mind taking a look.

It sounds like it is the flyback transformer.

Just googling and stuff really. I am an electrician by trade but have no soldering/PCB experience so it's a bit of an educated guess and quite possibly wrong.

As they say a bit of knowledge can be dangerous.

hmm, send me a pm for my address but i think im about an hour away from telford?

im currently trying to find a service manual for this

I haven't got the remote unfortunately but I've been using an old phone as an IR receiver which I can bring with the TV. Will PM you now thank you!

Give Roy a chance to get this TV going....the only thing in my opinion which will stop him is if parts are no longer available

i will happily look at,i have no idea what is wrong with it all i know is its dead
im realistic

its lopt failure or if you like flyback is toast,i'll try to find one but its not looking hopeful
i'll post a picture,it litrally has a hole in it

part is unobtainium,so that makes the tv unrepairable
i gave the part number to him in an atempt to see if he could find it as well, search results can vary, and give it more chance

no luck

can mods close this, please
