Hi,
I have a Sony Trinitron KV-21XRU that's in need of repair. It has been to the most local repair place I could find (Grendon Audio Visual) and I have been told that without a service manual there is nothing more he can do. It powers on, then straight off again(Red light, no picture). Apparently the "in - out" should be ok but some resistors, etc have burned beyond recognition.

Here is a quote from the email I received:
"The set has had liquid spilt into it at some time. This has caused failure & burning of some components in the line oscillator circuit."

I can't think of anytime it's got wet, so I blame our cats. I've owned the set for 6 years or so and it was the first in my collection so I really want to save it!

Any help or guidance would be much appreciated,
Cheers!

funilly enough i was looking for the service manual, and turned up nothing much

i could have a look at it,but i wont promise anything
you would have to send me a pm for my address for drop off

this was dropped off just now,we had a chat

i'll look at this a bit later, damage assessment etc inspection

ive done a brief-ish inspection, horizontal drive blew for some reason

i will go order a part or two,and see how this turns out
board will have to come out its pretty filthy, and have a clean

i have a feeling the parts for this have been lost in the post

so,to that effect in advance i ordered another from somewhere else, yesterday

a bit of a update, this now turns on but still has a fault or faults i need to clear, and seem to be located on one board that no controls work on
so,itll be here a while ,while i work out what on earth is going on
at least it turns on now, right?

here is a couple of pictures, for you guys and girls to look at in the meantime

i hear that all the time, funny thing is i hardly never see it personally with this sort of equipment
not that it cant happen,it does, its just not as common as some people think it is,and its hardly ,never a fix

since we are on the subject of caps,i have had people suggest i recap their monitor or tv,while im repairing it from dead, like say a lopt replacement
which isnt cheap as it is,right, parts and labour
recapping a monitor or a tv,is time consuming,so imagine the bill after, when the caps are fine and im asked to change them
that takes place i have got it working,NOT during, that would be hilariously daft
if you have common sense, you can work out that taking something apart multiple times to replace parts, takes time

and yes,if anyone is curious ,i do check them, seriously

but hey,i could offer it to bulk the bill up ,and i could afford some nice extras, hahaha

i knew i had a tda1082 knocking around somewhere,i just couldnt find it

anyway, this is now fully working, ill go let him know

a couple of pictures for the ladies and gents looking at this thread :)
pictures arnt great, the tube is facing my front window
i will put this back together tomorrow sometime
