Star Wars Blu-Ray on its way!

"Blinking Ewoks" look ridiculous, IMO...
It takes what the original three got right (live action) and added what the Prequel three got wrong (CGI) and voila! Soup sandwich.
Not to beat a dead horse, but have we learned nothing from the follies of CGI? Compare the aforementioned Star Wars flicks. Compare the first Matrix flick to the following two...they are cartoons. It's just...dumb.
If I want to watch CGI, I'll watch Up! or Shrek or something like that!

Sadly I don't think it includes the orgiinal theatrical releases of the original trilogy but I have those on DVD from the release a couple of years ago so not too much of an issue, although Lucas really should have got his act together and created each disc with both versions you could switch between, like the DVD release.
Some potential bad news is that Lucas still can't leave things alone and has apparently tinkered with the films some more for this release. Replacing the puppet Yoda in Ep 1 with a CGI Yoda, altering how Jaba's palace looks as C3PO and R3 approach it in EPVI, and even changing the sound Obi-Wan makes in EPIV when he first appears and scares off the sand people. Mad! Though I suppose an artist is never 100% happy with their work and feel the need to continue playing with it. But equally an artist should know when something is finished and they shouldn't play with it any more.
Anyway... I'm hoping the comments I've been reading are wrong and it does include the original releases (but I'm pretty sure it doesn't). Anyway, will be good to get it in Blu-Ray with 6.1 sound whatever the version.
And I'm sure Lucas will see fit to tinker with the films some more before their 3D cinema re-release comes out. Then we will probably see even more tinkering before those versions see a blu-ray release. I wonder if he will also cash in and release the original theatrical releases later in a separate box set?

I just refuse to buy the same movies AGAIN. I bought them on LaserDisc, VHS and DVD. Not going to buy give George any more money for the same movies.

What I want is a version on Blu Ray that is taken from the Internet edit whereby Jarjar is pretty much removed from Episode One! Classic!

Precisely! I find upscaled DVDs to be very watchable on my 1080P set. In fact, when I purchase movies or TV shows, I tend to still buy the DVD version because they are usually less expensive and look fine.By the art of upscaling

I'm still however waiting for a proper box set transfer of the Star Trek films to BD. They have been messing around with those releases more than Star Wars. Some films on BD being original theatrical releases, others being remastered editions, others the newer CGi updated versions.
The only Star Trek box set worth getting at the moment is the Original Series as it contains completely cleaned up footage and whilst they have also done some CGi updating it actually works, making the Enterprise look more like the Motion Picture. But still able to switch between the original and updated version of each episode as you watch. So great stuff.

Yeah, officially it is the 12th. Play.com however generally send their pre-orders about a week before that to get them to the customer by the day of release. Normally I get them about 4 days before in general. For films and games.
Since Lucas messed with the original trilogy yet again, I have no plans on giving him more money.
To this day, when I want to watch these films, I usually go for the LaserDisc THX editions
Too bad we'll never have the originals, like they were originally intended (no digital messing around) in HiDef

I see no point of buying anything that I have on DVD again on Blu-ray. I do have the original trilogy also on VHS. Two versions actually. The theatrical and re-mastered version. The DVD is post Ep1-3.
Well, the point is quality.
Since the first time I ever saw how HDTV looks (via Hi-Vision LaserDisc back in 2001) I nearly stopped buying DVDs completely.
After a while I didnt even download them anymore...
Instead I started trading (and downloading) TV captures from HDTV channels in the US and Japan (and later also Europe).
Even with their relatively low bitrate (for 1080i), these caps looked so much better than the equivalent DVDs, it was just ridiculous.
Today DVD looks to me just like VHS looked back when DVD was first released.
Very hard to watch, especially on a big screen.
