Star Wars Episode 7. Have you seen it yet?

Saw the movie a few days ago. I seem to have liked it better than you guys but I thought it was so lame the villain (Ben Solo/Kylo Ren) had a mask solely for the sake of having a mask.

Darth Vader needed a mask because he was burned all over and needed a portable oxygen generator because of the condition of his lungs. Pretty much all villains/sith lords in Star Wars movies or games are badly injured as a result of their constant fighting for power and that's why they need special masks or prosthetics. Not so in this movie...

Saw it last night Enjoyed it, Think because I have read so many of the books I was both surprised and a little let down but as far as the franchise goes its a brilliant Film and the next one will be even bigger.

So its thumbs up from me with a little sadness so many great books that will have to be made in cartoon fashion due to Harrison Ford refusing to do the follow on films for so long.
 
Although they have confirmed the whole cast will return for the next film. Is he dead? Or could it be flash backs?

Kylo Ren wearing a mask bugged me to. He should of had some form of facial disfiguration after using the dark side so much. At least he now has a nice light saber wound to achieve that.

Regarding whom Rey would be. Anyone else think of Mara Jade? Could be a similar repeated plot. Luke goes into exile without knowing he's going to be a father, then the daughter is hidden, or something goes wrong and she gets abandoned.

The point of him wanting to wear a mask was due to his fascination with his grandad vader.
As Rey pointed out to him, he wants to be better than vader in everyway, but failing...

Actually, i have never seen so far a Jedi/Sith so lame in any movie/cartoon/book/comics/videogame.

Kylo Ren is responsible for this movie to be the worst Star Wars ever, along with the lack of any epic scene as someone said earlier in this thread, and the palgiarism of bits from previous movies.
Only Rey is awesome (though not a credible character). I also like Finn.

I remember that i liked the highly criticized Phantom Menace when i got out of the theater in 1999 (pod racers, child Anakin, Qui Gong Jinn, Sith plot, new characters of the Trade Federation, Darth Maul battle = wow!), even though the previous movies were better.
The Force Awakens disappoints me a lot. It gets worse every day.

Without a doubt , the best film I've seen for a very long time.excellent !

my only criticism would be one or two of the characters needed fleshing out more and I'm not sure we needed Han and Leia bonding ... We know that already

and I'm particularly happy it didn't have the soft , cuddly ending that hollywood feels it has to add to big budget film which spoils almost everyone.

im not a huge star wars nerd so i won't pick holes in the story much.

overall - great!

I agree with Xanxi, the force awakens was a particularly weak film - a regurgitation of episode IV and VI combined together, with Sky (or whatever her name was) as a scavenger but speaking with an RP accent straight out of drama school. No doubt the justification for her accent will be that she is some sort of long lost jedi - a relation of Skywalker or a Kenobi.

The director was Abrahams who is a star trek person - surely this is a cardinal sin for Star Wars films. George Lucas should have fully directed since the previous directors of IV to VI are all dead. Comparing to the more modern star was - certainly the phantom menace was better. Things can only get better, what a wasted opportunity.
 
Funny, everyone in US/UK boards is talking about Rey's accent. As a non native english speaker, she's seems to speak plain english to me.
I can't identify any accent anyway, except a good scottish accent or a fellow french speaking english.

With Reference to Kylo and the Mask debate..

i think he should have only unmasked in front of Han - not before ... he was a little 'normal' looking for me

but loved is light sabre and with fact that he was getting 'Angry' - in line with the dark side attributes

but i enjoyed this more that the last three - but not as good as my favorite 'The Empire Strikes Back'
 
Young person who has no idea of thier potential with the force and being able to use it just at the moment they need it - check

Darth Vader-y / Sith type villain with emotional conflicts due to family - check

'hero' from a tatooine-like desert-y planet - check

cute little roboty type dude - check

wise yoda-y type creature - check

'Death Star' - check

and yes...the mask is a 'tribute' to his grandfather, Darth Vader...

could've been better....could've been worse...no Jake Lloyd/Hayden Christensen already boosts it above I, II and III for me...

nothing beats Empire....

loved it in 3d, there was a shot of the battleship and it lept of the screen :)

I thought the film was well shot, like at the start where poe is trying to get to his ship and they are fighting in the background, good stuff.

I really enjoyed the film, some little throwback lines, some action, likable characters.
 
I don't realise so many people online were getting hung up on Rey's accent. It's how the actress speaks in real life. Plus remember Leia had an English accent. Don't see the issue. Better than another American accent.
