For Sale: Texas Instruments Ti99 /4A computer

Up for sale is my spare Texas Instruments Ti99/4A.

Please note 1 One of the pins at the back of the machine has been pushed in a little. Speaking to Bas you should be able to gently pull it out again with a pair of pliers but I am too scared to do it myself.

As far as I can tell it works perfectly. I've tested it via the RF module and also my component cables (not included in the sale but definitely worth buying for the best picture). There are a few marks on the top of the case but nothing too bad.

I'm looking for €60 + PP fees + P&P from Ireland.

Happy to take additional photos on request or answer any questions.

Sorry, this is embarrassing, I think I might have sold my spare NanoPeb a few years back and forgotten about it, so I've removed it from sale as I want to keep this one. I've reduced the price accordingly.

Sorry to post in your for-sale thread but, how did you get this setup working ? And where did you get your component cables ?
I got some component cables from a EU hardware cable website but have so far not been able to get any output from them. I'm wondering if it's because I have only tried this out on a couple of LCD TVs, not proper monitors.
Anyway, don't mean to derail your thread.

Hi, sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I had some interviews over the last few days.

chatopirulo, Shipping to Spain is not cheap probably because the size of the box and it's coming in around 5KG with the old metal RF converter The cheapest I could find is €55. The national postal service started around €65...
AdamTheRetroGuy. Shipping within Ireland is a lot better, we're looking around €15

Hi, no problem. I've not had an issue with my cables. I get all of mine from RetroComputerShack via ebay. Not really had a problem with any of them (with the exception of the CPC one once). I've only had it hooked up to my Sony PVM. I'll check it with my old Pioneer Plasma and Sony OLED as well and let you know if it works on those as well

Tried it on the 10 year old plasma TV and looks good via component. I'll try a more modern TV later to confirm. I know some AV technologies have problems if the frequency of the signal is a little off on modern TV's so might be worth asking someone with more technical knowledge like TheCorfiot or Bryce if they have any ideas, also in case it's something damaged on the mobo on your machine?

I 'm starting to wonder if it's my cable. I know it's not my TI as I have 3 of them and they all show no picture via component. I tried on a couple of LCD TVs, 5 year-old Samsung LCD, LG, and a cheapo Aldi brand, no picture. Tried my neighbour's LG LED TV and nothing. And my own LED Sharp Aquos shows no picture.
I'm left with either trying another cable, possibly from the same guys you got your cable. Perhaps it was buying from a EU shop that was the problem. Are Euro TI's different when outputting video ? Perhaps that cable was meant for a Euro TI.
My other option is to mod the modulator for composite, only I have the awkward plastic modulator, not the metal one. Don't suppose you have a spare metal modulator ?

Anyway, sorry to derail your thread. Anyone thinking of getting one, these are great, quirky machines, and look totally unique among other 8-bit computers. Plus, you can get a SDCard option off the bay called Flashrom99 for around £30.

This little Ti99 is really growing on me probably because of the amount of time I've spent figuring it out especially with all of its quirks, it just makes it more satisfying when it all clicks (like why does the lower-case characters look like upper-case especially when the thing is case-sensitive, and why do I load basic programs by calling OLD??? OLD DSK1.CATALOG to load Catalog basic program from the first disk drive for example, and why do I need to work out if I need to launch games using the XB or EA (and either option 3 or 5) carts, why does the up on the joystick not work when the alpha lock it on... among other things)...

It's actually worth persevering with as it's a fantastic little machine with some great ports of Donkey Kong, Pole Position, Pacman etc.

I've found the original key-card that went across the top which I'll include with the machine. I've also tested it with my Speech Synthesizer, NanoPEB and original joysticks (all not included in sale sadly) and they all work perfectly.

I've not heard back from chatopirulo yet. I emailed him on the 2nd so if I do not hear back tomorrow I'll move on to AdamTheRetroGuy

I'll put some pictures of some of the games I've been playing



P.S. Tried it on a modern Samsung TV I bought last year and works perfectly on that as well

The good news is I actually found the other NanoPEB which was tucked away in the loft. As there was interest in this I'll list it separately.

Good choice. Once everything is setup and working then it's a great, quirky machine with some good ports, and there is also Parsec.

I see you got it working on your Samsung. I think I will order a new component cable.

Would be very interested in the nanopeb, when it goes up.

True, I do have an earlier version but it seems to be suffering from a bit of key-bounce which I need to look at so I just wanted to keep this one as a backup until I know the keyboard is dying on the other one.

I actually also found a Parsec cart in the loft for it the other day as well. I mean to try it out shortly
