Well guys, we did it! :)

It was on the 4th of October in a small town in the so called Odenwald, Schoenau...

Petro Tyschtschenko was one of the guests and of of two existing Walker Prototypes was with him.

On the DoReCo some days before, they waked up the Walker from ist nearly 18 weeks Lasting sleep, but not everything was functional.

But now, with the help of the A1k.org members amiga4ever, amigaGTI, LordOfLego and myself, we could proudly announce...

THE WALKER IS FULLY FUNCTIONAL!!!

It is booting up WB 3.1 from the internal 1 GB harddisk or a floppy disk and reads CDs without problems.

excellent - no vids?

translation here: - i hope thats okay - mike.

There once was a beautiful autumn day , more precisely 4 October 2014 in the sleepy town of Schönau im Odenwald . A normal day vile ? No, the Classic Computing 2014 opened in the local town hall that day its doors .

Well, that 's CC inherently special, but in addition to the usual suspects such as Amigas ( from 500 to Cyber Storm PPC to 4000T ) , CBMs , C64 and C128 , various Ataris , old PCs and Macs was there but somehow something otherwise ...

A friendly older gentleman , Petro Tyschtschenko , for privy of course no stranger , had mixed among the illustrious audience and he had something for them .
No, not only his books , he naturally also abundant brought to the people. At first we were puzzled , what a sucker rod has to search on a retro computer event , but on closer inspection we could see him ...

He was the one Walker, who never ran, and to be exact also did not work properly . Also note the beautiful Commodore 1081 monitor and clean A4000 keyboard that bravely and selflessly provided the a1k.org members amiga4ever and AmigaGTI for the demonstration of this prototype available !
On the DoReCo 2014 already succeeded in some bold and undaunted Amiga agents to give the Walker from his fairy tale Sleeping carefully . Specifically slept a good piece for almost 18 years in Petros basement and had , according to the statements of the owner probably already some cobwebs recognized .

The Walker wakes up and obediently boot from the internal hard disk ...

Note the startup message BETA kickstart and of course the Commodore 1081 monitor of Amiga4ever !

But quite a good piece did not just work . On closer inspection, the Workbench falls on a sure that the floppy disk drive , otherwise one does not work on PC . It was and wanted to read any disks and also the standard CD drive had nothing to do with the CDs on his hat .

I then talked a little longer with Petro and eventually we both then had the idea , to make the Walker fully functional. Whether it is a FULLY FUNCTIONAL AGAIN FOR THE FIRST TIME or FULL FUNCTIONAL know well only the star ...
But well, first we 've taken care of the floppy . In order to determine something of the prototype had to lie down , however, a Strip and open his case . Thank God the universally known AmigaGTI and LordOfLego were present for this project and the careful Walker has been opened ...

All cables were on the drive off and also check the voltages applied was without abnormalities. So both the floppy drive stopped at the next potential candidates themselves . After a brief discussion , whether it is an Amiga or PC drive , both types of drives were organized and tested , unfortunately negative both times .
I then looked through a small gap in the still hidden heart of the Walkers , on the motherboard , but even there the cables were plugged clean. Our LordOfLego tapped the floppy cable , which certainly could have whetted the slightly sharp edges of the prototypes .
The structure with the power supply and the drives was removed carefully and exactly as it happened, after 18 years ! Oh my God !!!

Pictures of Walker mainboard ! It can be good , the 68030 CPU , an unpopulated place beside it (possibly for a FPU ?? ) , the chips , the PCI - slot , 16 MB of memory module for the Fastram and another slot ( for processor cards ?? ) recognize !

However, the replacement of the floppy cable was not successful .
But now my time had come !
Until now I had only Petro encouraged to get his Walker fully functional and documented individual steps with a few pictures . But was something I noticed in painstaking detective work exactly on these images ...

The Walker on the mainboard two 34 -pin connectors , maybe put the floppy cable since almost two decades in the wrong port ?
Well what to say , no one takes the correct port, even it works well with the Walker !
The prototype was then reassembled with the active support of Petro itself ...

And I could not resist it easy for me to get Sysinfo and Which Amiga running on the Walker , because finally you could install software on the Walker ...

Well , the first results are not really great, but one must not forget , there is here a prototype . But if the ESCOM bankruptcy not intervened and when gateway is not blind Bill Gates would be followed ...

Thus, the CD drive now finally can do something with CDs , a suitable CD file system have AmigaGTI and LordOfLego also installed immediately !

Thus we have managed after 18 years of Walker prototype is actually fully functional!

No vids, but the result is counting!
Thanks for the translation!

Awesome work on documenting this Herwig!
But points deducted for the pun-ish title "You Never Walker Alone":ROTFLOL2:

I still have an Amiga mouse mat signed by Petro saying 'Thank you for supporting Amiga'
