I have piece of computer history to offer here in a very complete condition as far as I can tell.

It actually seems to be the FIRST EVER disk drive for PET Computers ever made - in 1979, even before the official CBM 2040 drive launched. I cannot find much Information on it, as it is so rare.

BUT: What you get is speaking for itself:
- a (external) Dual Disk Drive
- 2x internal Floppy Board (Mount inside your PET Computer, see the PET board rev that you Need on the pics) - 1 as spares
- 2x Manual (install and DISKMON Manual (how to use the floppy commands))
- power Adapter to get power to the drive.

All can be installed without modification of the PET Computer. Again, please see the Revision of the PET Board that you Need, I am not a PET expert, but not all PET have the same Expansion Slots to Mount it to. It came in a CBM 3032.

The PET was still in box and also came with Manuals. I had to buy the whole lot to get the PET also but I really did not wanted the disk drive, but he did not sell it seperated. He said he had tested it successfully before selling it to me. He was a dealer and those were the computers he had to show off the functions to the customers I guess, that is all I can tell you for the history of this Equipment, but as you can see, it was much cared after. [the PET is not included for sure...]

The 2nd board is meant to be used as SPARES. It DOES NOT work, as SOME PIECES are missing (see the pic). First, the holders are missing (but not that much needed, they Clip to the PET PSU part to be more stable). Also some logic Chips are missing (that you can still buy online). The only Thing that really is a bit of a Problem is a missing EPROM on it. It is that old you can still buy it online, but I do not have a device to read or write it so I did not try to complete this board.

PLEASE NOTE:
As this drive came before Commodore set their Standard, it is NOT COMPATIBLE to any CBM Format. I guess (not sure) this one stores 500 kB on 5,25" DD disks. It is very unique.

If somebody is into PET / CBM stuff or wants to have something curious in a condition that is I guess the most complete that you ever will see anywhere. The Manuals will tell you all the Special commands and SYNTAX as well as LISTINGS etc to use this device.

Not sure about the ROMs (if you Need Special ROMs for the PET). Those would be in my PET 3032 and I could also sell those with it, but I would Need original or Eproms with same Content as originals so my pet would still work. I will figure that out or maybe the someone knows more on this drive and how to solve that.

I have no idea how to figure out a Price for that as I never saw that anywhere for sale AT ALL. Also amibay says "no match found" for Computhink search. I found some People having the drive but missing the board, or having the board but missing the EPROM, never seen a Manual at all of it. So I am pretty confident to say that this complete set is something rare, if you think on the year 1979, not much will have a disk drive System and a few month later, CBM came out with their Standard, so this I guess was not sold for too Long.

I just say 350 Euros plus shipping or near offer. That would be my best guess and Price I would part with it.

If I do not sell it, at least you could see it :)

Will be packed FOR FEE, no additional charges beside the postage costs. Will be packed very well. Can take a few days to pack it save. Payment with PayPal or bank Transfer possible. Paypal Fee to you or FOR FRIENDS AND FAMILY (you will get it 100%, also I have not much Feedback here until now).

Europe 220V Version

Sell AS-IS, no warranty. 37 years old!

Hi,
I might be interested but I have a question before.
What is the disk drive model? It should have a blue label with the model on rear of the diskdrive.
Regards

Chipitos

Thanks for your interest, I am not quite sure what you mean by "blue Label" - do you mean the Disk drive unit (case with PSU and 2x drives) or what drives are INTERNAL (drive type)?

At least, here is the back of the unit and the back Label!

Please tell me what else Information you Need.

I found more Pictures, but those are NOT MY pics. Just General Information:
http://www.forum64.de/index.php?thread/38288-compu-think-dsk-800kp2/

The guy has no Manual or board, it cannot be used stand alone (only with the complete set of internal baord and the disk drive unit).

some more information

some more information

Hi,

I looked into the manual but there was no hint on either of (mine or your) disk drive model. The Installation manual says:
PET II DISK CONTROLLER BOARD
(400K or 800K)

Maybe one is 400 and 800, or you have a complete different set.

But my set fits together and is working so why you want to replace the disk drives? No need for that as far as I know.

Please read:
One board is fully working and complete incl. PROM and holders, power splitter cable etc. Everything that is needed to operate this drive is included for sure, including cables, power splitter, controller board, floppy with cable and the EPROM for the PET (see description below).

The other board is SOLD AS-IS replacement parts for the working one or for repair. Missing for what I can tell you:
- PROM 6331 (that will be the most hard part to copy that from the working board)
- LS124 (standard part)
- 4x 5298 DRAM (standard parts)

So all chips can be bought for a few bucks on the Internet - just one would need programming. Maybe one of the sellers can program it for you, I am not sure about the Content or read-out of the PROM. Or just use it for spares.

Your board or the one in the link has more RAM on it, maybe was a later model .

Here is some Information:
- There is either a EPROM Card to be plugged in (that version seems to be shown in the link)
OR
- EPROM for the most left-hand sided empty socket of the PET board (that version I will have)

One EPROM socket will be filled with EPROM, the other has a cable that plugs into the EPROM socket (see the pic). It will be still in my PET installed. I will look as soon as possible, maybe after easter as I am a few days with my Family.

After install, with a command you activate commands called "DISKMON". A DISKMON user guide for all commands is included in this set. So you will also have lot of Information on how to install and use this set, which is quite rare. At least I did not find any Scan or Information on DISKMON.

The Controller is labled on the board itself:
DD DSK CTL P2
ASSY 1000176- (that's called PART NUMBER in the Installation guide)

Hand written (Serial ?) is: 400372

EPROM Card is called "1180" in the manual, maybe that is the Expansion EPROM board on your Picture (or link) that you sent. It is not needed here in this set as the ROM will be in my PET, I am pretty sure as the owner had it running there in. I will get it out and send it with the drive to you, for sure.

User guide (book) also tells how to Format, etc. a disk and has some BASIC listings.

Please understand I do not have much Information on this, it IS quite rare. I understand you have some questions before buying and I try my best to answer them as correct as I can. It is more a collectors item and maybe a bit harder to Setup then a original Commodore drive, but on the other Hand can be more interesting to explore the DISKMON commands rather than the normal Commodore commands. I don't know, I just thought maybe one can do more then I will do with it.

It is one of my first PETs (bought the 3032 (with this ComuThink installed) and a 8032 with 8050 drive all in one set from the ex-dealer). They work, the PET 3032 keyboard is a bit a Problem (that was tested and told me by the seller before I bought it, so no Problem there). I am new to PET and to install all that and get the keyboard working is not a one-day Thing. I will try to maybe set it up for you to test it to be 1000% sure or you can send it back when it is not working, but again, I am pretty confident it will be complete and the maybe biggest CompuThink set that is for sale anywhere on this planet.

Here are some more pics of the board (installed in the PET). Yes, I cleaned it... PET or anything not related to the drive not for sale. Box not for sale. Should only show you the condition and quality of this set, it was really cared and a PET BOX is hard to find today.

Did not see any PM. Please tell me if interested or not. Not much more information I can give you. Should I disassamble the drive to see what is in there (what disk drive model)? Not sure if that makes sense. Again, hard to find any Information on that.

UPDATE:

@chipitos:

> I do not have the same controller but I think it misses the ROM on your controller and I do not know if my ROM works in your Controller

Again (please read full description and last post !!!), it is complete, Comes with ROM for install on the PET board (not a seperate Card, as noted in the Manual, both is possible).

I found the ROM (PROM?) together with the Adapter in a Computhink 3032 labled antistatic bag!!! Here are some pics.

12874445_10207715131268087_2114546599_o.jpg12894380_10207715130748074_592252696_o.jpg12903913_10207715131068082_224721871_o.jpg12915200_10207715131508093_1299007200_o.jpg

So you see it really IS over-complete. The Adapter goes through the hole on the Controller board down to the PET ROM Socket. There are 2 empty sockets on that PET Board, right one will be used by the Adapter, left one will be fitted with the ROM (shown above).

Cannot tell you any more! For Transport, he got all parts out, that is how I got it. If you want a test, it would take some more time. At least all other parts of the set are OK (except the 3032 keyboard as he told me before I bought it - that's the reason why I would Need to repair the Keyboard first to test the drive as I cannot enter commands). It is in superb complete consition, as you can see plus comes with spare parts. Really nice item. If I would search that, I would buy it, as it is no where on sale. It is Special and unique, just a bit weired :)

Hope you like it and you send me a PM. Happy easter.
