I've got a Boxed Original Xbox.

It's used ( opened the box and soft modded ) but like NEW not a scratch with all contents

now do I open the xbox and check for the clock capacitor or leave with the warranty seal intact.

its just a spare in case my chipped box dies, but wondering if there is any reason not to break the warranty seal ?

Only one version of the original XBOXs required to remove the capacitor check yours before opening, maybe it is not required :)

You sure? I'd heard that you only need to do it on a 1.0 - 1.5 mobo with 1.6 being OK for now but caps are caps and they will eventually pop. Side note, I really wish someone would release a proper HDMI mod like this promised: https://www.retrorgb.com/true-xbox-hdmi-mod-announced.html As the output looks like crap on a modern screen compared to how ace it was on a CRT. That and I hope they tweak a way to use the wireless 360 controllers on it as well. Heck I'd be happy if someone just fixed the emulation glitches in Outrun 2/C2C on 360 as that would be perfect.

Yes, only 1 version does NOT require the check, namely - 1.6 :)

Open and check. it's of no use to anyone if the mobo is damaged, and no, there is no reason not to open it.

I'll open it up then, didnt want to peal off the feet but I might as well.

On some of them the label can be heated and peeled off using a flat tool and the glue will stay with the sticker. Unfortunately, we changed to a label that discolored with heat when we realised how easy it was to pop the labels off with a heat gun. Also - I vaguely remember that we used thermal printing for the serial numbers (I may be confusing this with the 360)

Absolutely not true. Capacitors affected by the 'capacitor plague' pop. Good capacitors don't pop. Although the original XBox was made and sold during the period where capacitors had that problem. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague
How can that be "absolutely not true" when the OG Xbox had its run exactly through that era or are you actually just agreeing with me but honking for the heck of it?
