ive been away for the weekend and left my Kingston 4Gb usb stick in my pocket..

well after 45 spin cycle at 50c , i pulled my jeans out and out popped and lovely smelling but very wet USB stick...ooops

SO, after 2 days drying & blowing out with my airline - ive just plugged it in and...

BINGO...all good :-)

try doing that with a floppy disk :-)

take 1 usb stick , add DAZ automatic and spin for 45 mins...

Yeah, I had the same thing happen with my USB stick a couple months ago - ran through the washer and the case had busted off by the time we found it, but everything ran A-okay once I'd let it dry out. (Didn't stop me from moving the data onto a new stick, just to be safe ;))

You don't have to worry about the water but the physical damage is what you do. Thanks to advice from many of our leet hackers here, I toss motherboards in the dishwasher whenever I need to clean one up. :) Worked wonders on both my Colecovision boards!

I have a couple of Amiga boards that needs TLC and to start a good clean. but I still have a hard time getting to the idea of putting them in the dishwasher. I find the idea of a q-tip and an evening more promising.

I have to admit I've washed boards under the tap many times and as long as it's dry before powering up it should be fine

I totally understand how you feel. The first time I put the board in there I was very scared I was just ruining it. After plenty of drying time in the cupboard, it looked beautiful and booted right up! Now, whenever I put together electronic boards, I always run them under water or through the dishwasher to clean them up. :)

Quick question: should bleach be used or not? :D
LOL! I think that would void the warranty... Actually, putting a motherboard in the dishwasher would probably void it as well... I won't be trying the bleach though.

Bleach ? No more than a cup full and don't forget the comfort :-)

Those purple 4GB data travellers and green 2GB do take a beating, even the somewhat older 8GB black once survive the washing machine even if it it's in 3 parts.

Yeah good to read I'm not the only one leaving some stuff in my jeans once in a while. I'm just glad some parts stick to my body loosing my head once in a while is enough

Washing motherboards is good as long as you wait for them to dry. The good part that is you can clean contacts quicker and get rid of the dust better than compressed air. A gentle tootbrush, soap and a bit of alcohol do the rest :)
