Hi all,

So I have a bit of an issue. The WHDload isn't working on my current Amiga hard drive. Games are there but when I try to load them it says "unable to open your tool "WHDLoad".

I'm guessing something may be corrupted somewhere and I need to reinstall WHD load?

I have a WHDLoad installer on a separate drive so I attempted to connect both to WinUAE to copy it across but WinUAE is showing the physical SD card as read only with no option to check Read/Write, it's greyed out and untickable. I need it to be readable to copy the WHDLoad installer across but I can't seem to see a way to make it writable in WinUAE...

Any way around this? I've got a working A600 finally and I still can't quite run my setup! I wonder what's next 😅

It helps if you always have Administrator Privilages when working with WinUAE. To acheive this, right click on the WinUAE file, choose Properties then the Compatibility tab. Check the 'Run This Program As An Administrator' box then click Apply then OK.

Copy the WHDLoad Installer software to a folder on your PC
Insert your SD card as normal
Load WinUAE and load your configuration
Assign the folder as an extra drive
Boot to Workbench
Copy WHDLoad Installer to your SD card from your previously assigned folder

Hmm I think it may be my adapter. I just tried to write the image to a new SD card in AmigaForever and had the same issue. Popped the card out and back in again and it allowed me to write.

Thanks. I'll try it that way. I've been trying to do it as in getting the WHDLoad copied from one Amiga drive to the other up to now. Didn't realise I could do it right from Windows!

Because I'm constantly using SD cards for various setups and Gotek's, I like to keep a few of these spare....

Managed to get it running. I then
had to reinstall workbench using disks on a real miggy to the SD, possibly something to do with the IDE driver difference between the A600 and A1200.

I then had WHDLoad not working so had to install LHA, then the Installer via LHA and then WHDLoad again from scratch. It's now working in UAE. And as it was made using my A600 this time, last I tried it it was booting. I just hope it is when I put the SD card back in it tomorrow. If so, I think I may finally be there.

Thanks for the help all!

Success! On a real miggy!

I couldn't wait so got back out of bed to try it out.

🕺🕺🕺😁😁😁

This message is fitting because it took me an unbelievable amount of time to get this setup working too!

Well done!

Now all you have to do is update WHDLoad, it's completely free now :p

@Pinback

Don't forget that the A600 is 16-bit whereas the A1200 is 32-bit. Also Workbench went thru a complete rewrite after 2.05 to take advantage of the new machine's capabilities.

i didnt. hardwarewise i dont see much differences when checking the schematics. the ide implementation is 32bit too? so the gayle in a 1200 is so much different as the one in a600?
a1200 wasnt that much 32bit, iirc. once again i feel how ignorant i am. but now i am curious.

@Pinback

Gayle chip is the same right across the range, the architecture and CPU of the A1200 is 32-bit.

i know i know. like you said, cpu is 32bit. and not much more it seems. but i need to learn, currently i just dont know enough to state either one thing or the other.

so would an A600 with an 020 accelerator be as 32bit as an A1200? If so, I'm guessing it's only the AGA chips etc that sets them apart at that point? 🤔

I'm guessing there are still some differences though as I had a Furia 020 connected and it still wouldn't boot...

I noticed that while exploring the Web after downloading and installing this version. I've also discovered Aminet so lots of fun incoming!

Is updating as easy as downloading the latest and installing again? Guessing the installer will take care of the older version on install?

@AmiNeo

Upgrading is as simple as you say. Download, transfer to your A600 then de-archive and run the installer :)

You should only need the WHDLoad_usr_small file as you probably already have most of the help files etc already from your previous install.
