dont go to talk talk its the biggest mistake i have done moving from aol. i get drop outs and all kinds of ****e from them

I've heard this quite a few times now.I must be lucky as I've been with talk talk for quite a few years now with very few problems.Just a couple of times when I've lost service but they always sorted it out quickly. Not mega fast speeds (about 8 Mb)but for the price it's fine for me.

How can I find out about sky line availability?

And thanks everyone for you recommendations. I'm thinking Be will be the way to go.

If you go to the sky website, just google sky broadband and it should be first link. Use the line checker and it will tell you what you can get. If you get 40gb at £17 per month that is the rubbish service via BT lines.

Also check this out:

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker

Will tell you pretty much everything and who you can go with as well. Should give rough line speeds as well, you get a tab telling you what companies are in your exchange. I spent a good 2-3 years going through ISP's getting my contracts stopped for faults etc, joined BT direct 7-8 months ago and not had a single issue. I hate finding new ISP's because what might be great for one, will be shocking for someone else. So no reviews will help really, luck of the draw.

Good luck though m8 and I hope who you choose is good for your needs.

AOL are now owned by TalkTalk and run on the same network. Unless you are routing through a different router/server now?

I remember AOL being extremely good back when they were their own entity... It all went to pot on the TT network imo and now I use Sky which is pretty reliable and as good as the old AOL network was.

The AOL software is carp - do they still advise installing that?

Does the Be value package have a static IP? Looking at their website it is only stating their more expensive packages do.

I'm with sky, can't fault them, completely unlimited downloads, no traffic shaping at all. torrents 24/7 for around a year now with no repurcussions. :D

Way better than my old BT package which would cap me at the start of me month.

Still wish I was with Bulldog n my old account from a few years ago though :(

No static IP address but the usual rule applies when the IP lease expires after 24 hours - if the old IP address is available, it re-aquires it

The only time mine changes was during first time use. It gave me a Dublin based IP address for approx 2 weeks before the system shunted me over to the closest server for my area.

I believe that dosen't happen nowadays, you now go straight to the local server.

Remember - you may also be able to use Dynamic DNS (via dyndns). Some routers support it. It's about £20 per year to have a DynDNS service. Might be worth considering if the price difference is significant to get a static.

My dyndns is free, unless you're talking about a package with lots of options? (Genuinely interested, as I haven't ever paid any attention to dyndns services)

Did the Sky Checker say you were able to get Sky BB on your Land line number?

I have major problems with the net dropping out and even the phone going nuts all thanks to talk talk who i have both with. I have got in the works now sky for everything as my brothers been with them for years with no problems.

I took the deal of that 6 months of free unlimited bb along with the phone line and TV. Came to a nice price to be honest plus i got a few things thrown in for free as well.
