If you've received a PM from member Freeddy please be aware that you will lose any money you send and not receive any goods.

Several members have been caught out by this member who is now banned but he/she keeps trying to rejoin AmiBay.

If you receive an unsolicited offer by PM please be careful and don't join the others that have been scammed.

You should report the PM so that we can take action because sending unsolicited PMs is against the rules.

Take care when dealing with new members

@davideo

Thanks for the update.

On the off-chance that this person manages to resurface on here or on other forums, are there further details that you can share with the userbase? Perhaps a name or paypal address for example that people should be aware of in case they come across "Freeddy" would be helpful.

The PM always relates to a Wanted thread the member has posted up and goes along the line of the below picture

I've asked about the Paypal address and will update this thread accordingly

@davideo

Many thanks, will update my personal records of scammers accordingly.

Interestingly enough, it seems our scammer is prolific on other forums as well, not just amiga related ones to boot.

For example - From bullseyeforum.net

Just got this one via PM from "Jabby":

hello are you still interested in getting this?.

you can contact Edward he has a left hand grips for a Supermatic 107 Military. for sale........... PM him @ edwardaustin283 at gmail dot com

And that is just from a simple search via google on the email address given.

Yes and seems to send out similair PMs to anybody and everybody

Update on the paypal address - akuyaa129@gmail.com (Alice Akuya)

So, is this a real person, or something like a bot with special algorithms that visits various forums to "fish" people in order to send money to a corresponding paypal address, by "reading" wanted threads in the first place? I watch too many movies I know, but nowadays, you never now...

Bloody Scammer ! I am glad I did report it because it is really odds to have both same message for 2 different items then man email me on hotmail and I thought hang on, let check his User Name on Amibay and it been deleted which I knew it was Scam and I report it !

The other important point is to always use a protected payment method and then if things do go wrong you should be able to get your money back

I got a PM from him too. Not sure if here or some other forum ... can't find the messages/mail. But I wasn't interested...

Maybe a temporary ban on bots from accessing Amibay might be prudent.

Maybe a temporary ban on bots from accessing Amibay might be prudent.

That shouldn't be needed as it requires human interaction to register and we've now also reintroduced the 2 posts before being able to PM

There are now also other security options enabled that we can't discuss here

The important thing is to be careful with any PM received and report anything that you consider suspicious

He's a busy bugger and as long as people keep sending him money he'll keep trying to get more

Thanks for the info, it is unfortunate but the default now is when you open any unknown communication the first question should be is this a scam.

It's the same when you answer your phone

The reason i insisted on the 2 post before pm rule

those emails are typical bot address’s

persons first then last name followed by some random number
