This is from an A2000 I'm working on. It was quite dusty inside. It kind of made me think the box was just left on and running. I pulled the mobo and washed/cleaned it, then popped open the power supply and air cleaned that. I saw some dust on the FDD front and when it was time to clean that found....

Mine wasn't reading discs and the mechanism was sluggish. Clean and grease and it's fine again. I'm going to go back in and finish it properly though.

Do you use any special grease? I was thinking it'd be good to grease the worm gear rail since it is open.

Just white grease. I removed all the filth that remained of the original grease then treated the worm gear, the runner at the other side and the 4 plastic wheels at the sides that the eject mechanism rides on.
