I guess some of you had the mail that some vampire V2 cards where not properly licensed, basically only the ones sold after Q2 2021..

Basically this means from core 2.16 appolo-computer refuses to update these cards. However they suggest you contact the reseller for a solution..

I am not sure what this means, or what they wan't.. but this raises the question of selling unlicensed vampire V2 is smart, since without action you will be locked on old cores.

For me it seems I am fine.. I have bought one early and one in Q1 2021..

My Vampire 2 was purchased before Q1 2021, as were both my V4 SA's.

Am happy with them all so unlikely this spat between Igor and the Apollo team will have any consequences for me personally. And unless a new super-duper core gets released for the V2 then it will simply remain on the presently installed version.

Shame both parties can't work things out amicably, but as usual it's all about money.

Speaking of which, I will need to throw some money to the Apollo team once my 2 Icedrake's have been built :)

I got my 500 V2 from Amigakit, I think it was early 21 as well, I'm sure they'll help if there's an issue with licences. I was considering an Ice Drake for my A1200 but I think I'll stick with the TF1260, I'm not really impressed with Alollo Team, I was on the waiting list for a 1200 V2 for almost 2 years, I never got offered an Ice Drake.

With regards to this I'm with @fitzsteve I'm disappointed with the Apollo team basically something has happened and now we have to suffer from it, surely they could honour the cards which have been made by Igor prior to the announcement.

knowing my luck I got an unlicensed one but it was offered to me via the "your card is ready to go please pay in 7 days or it will be offered to the next person" method

In some ways I don't like the " we have a new product we are no longer supporting the older model" mentality they have too, I know you got to progress with new ideas and it will be the main focus but usually there is some support for the older models with other companies.

With the Vampires the V1, these were dropped almost immediately on release of the V2, its not even mentioned on the Apollo site and it was the thing which started them off. Now with the new Ice Drake the new statement for the V2 is " The physical limits of the possibilities in the V2-Series FPGA have been reached. This means the current functionality will be frozen. In practice, this means there are no new features to be expected." . There was so many promises made with the V2 Series of cards which have not been fulfilled and this to me, is just there way of getting out of it but at least with the v2 there is support to get the existing cores at this moment in time.

I've been a big supporter of the vampire series and have most of the Vampire Addon model with the exception of the new one, I'm not sure if I will pursue the ice drake due to things like this unless one comes up really cheap second hand :ROFLMAO:

Don't get me wrong I like the fact they are bringing new Amiga hardware to the community and I hope they do it for many years to come but look after your supporters even when something happens which was unbeknown to them and support the hardware. Stop this "end of life" bollocks the amiga itself is "end of life" its the community, Apollo's potential customers, that keeps these wonderful machines going.

Everyone wants something new and modern at the expense of previous models. As somebody once said, it's called progress - see Apple's iPhone for example.

It's a simple premise that if you don't want then don't buy. There will always be somebody to take your place in the queue.

Ouch why is Amibay getting drawn into this? The apollo team has made a mess but the V2 was a bust and those of us that have them knew that last year. with the V4 I am with Tim and Steve I am going to hold off too even though I think with updates it could become a good option for an aging A500. Lets hope the old Amiga Flame wars die out its a drought guys we don't need a firestorm LOL

In fairness, it wouldn’t be an Amiga product without some sort of licensing/copyright holder/he said she said issue. It fits in well with the Amiga history
