Floppy drive VC 1541, unfortunately it is defective. When you turn on the power, both LEDs go bright and the drive motor goes on, and never goes off again.

Comes with IEC cable and power cable.

Ships from Germany.

10 Euros.

Hello!

Could be interested...
Could you provide some pictures and info about external conditions?
Thanks!

Just for your information, the problem is the 6502 CPU of the drive. It is knackered or just popped off the socket.

"At power up (without the computer connected) if the red activity LED stays on and the motor runs continuously, it means that the drive failed to complete its startup sequence. The most common causes are a bad DOS ROM UB4 (901229-xx) or failing 5V bridge rectifier, but other bad chips can produce those symptoms. The easiest place to check for correct voltages in and out of the power supply regulators is at the diodes CR2 and CR4 located near the two rectifiers. The anodes of those diodes are connected to the outputs of the +5V and +12V regulators. The cathodes (designated by a line or stripe at one end) show the unregulated source from the rectifiers that feed the regulators... about 10V for the 5V source and 20V for the 12V source. With drive startup problems, some chips to check are: UC4 (6502 MPU) and UC2 (6522 VIA). The smaller "glue logic" chips are pretty rugged, but do sometimes fail. Check UA1 (74LS14) and UD2 (7407)... they have also been known to cause those symptoms."

obviously the easiest thing to do is to lift and re-seat all the socketted chips as the pin connections will oxidize (and/or slightly corrode) over the space of 25 or 30 years...

Can you confirm if this is a Commodore 1541 or a VIC 1541?
The VIC 1541 only works with the VIC-20.

i see the VIC20 is in fact VC20 or i guess it was meant to represent VolksComputer 20 or something, in Germany

Oops! Confused by the number and low knowledge in 64 computers. I was after a Vic-20 compatible floppy unit!

Interest withdrawn.

The 1541, wether it is called VC/VIC or just 1541 - it is indeed vic 20 compatible. The 1540 is however ONLY vic 20 compatible. In fact, the reason the 1541 is a slow diskdrive compared to contemporary drives is because of decisions regarding the vic 20 compability.

VC is the german name because VIC sounds like a nasty word in that language. ;) ficken if i'm not mistaken. which should mean "to f**k"

So my CBM 1541C is totally compatible?

by all means,

;) even found an image on the net to illustrate it.
