Hey all,

I have just got a viper 520 CD for my A 500+ and I was wondering if people could answer the following:-

(Please bear in mind that I have not fitted this yet as the CIA needs soldering by a wire and my soldering iron has died! Bad timing! :thumbsdown:)

1. Does the ram auto configure? I am assuming this is the case as I cant find any software for it.

2. Is there an english manual anywhere as I can only find a german one? Google does a fairly good job at translating but still a little head scratching in places.

3. As this has kick 3.0 roms onboard could I use a rom switcher with it? If I remember there is a jumper onboard to dissable the the kick 3.0 rom but does this dissable the memory also?

4. I have read that you can change the kick rom to 3.1... Is this true? If so has anyone done this?

5. I will be using a ide to cf adapter on this but would also like to use an internal slimline cd/dvd as well... Would this be easy enough to do? I take it is just a matter of plugging it on one of the secondary ide ports and loading appropriate software?

Thanks in advance :thumbsup:

Awesome board! I also own one.

1. Yes it autoconfigs.

3. Disabling the onboard ROM leaves the RAM available.

4. NEVER do that. In theory, you would just have to swap the onboard 3.0 ROMS for the two ROMS from an A1200. In real, the ROM are soldered on top of a small chip that would be destroyed by any unsoldering attempt. There are several reports of that on the internet. If you ever need 3.1, use the 16 bits ROM socket from the mobo, or softkick the ROM. Do not damage this fine card.

5. There is no problem doing this. But the 2,5' header should not be used at the same time of the firts 3,5' header.

perfect info, the board have a jumper for set 0 or 4 or 8 mega ram and a juper for use rom on original board (500 or 2000) or rom 3.0 on viper

@Xanxi

I did see a small chip underneath the roms so I can beleive that it would be a pig of a job. Dont think I will bother trying anything with this card.

Has anyone managed to create a switch so that you can switch between the 3.0 roms and a rom switcher? Is this possible?

i have 2 viper520 for repair, if you remove the kick, is not possible install a socket for test 3.1

when i repaired one, i solder a 3.1 for test
